The club either thinks Blum is ready for spot duty or we're adding someone later today.

I'll go with the thread that seemed to beat the others by 30 seconds.

Interesting. I liked Sulzer. He isn't great, but a legit player.

Maybe we're bringing up Josi? (Sort of joking...)

Seems silly to trade away our depth on an already shaky defense, unless we think this 5th rd pick is just gonna be a real gem for us

Unless another move cometh.

Blum came up and showed he could play. Josi's supposed to be as good or better. Sulzer is a UFA. Won't be resigned. Got something for him. Good for us.

It's only a 7th in 2012 IF Sulzer signs with FLA. Gave depth up for nothing.

and what would you have traded for him if you were Florida or someone else? He's been our 7th dman. We brought Blum up from Milwaukee and he outplayed Sulzer. He's UFA at end of year. Getting something for him is better than nothing. He doesn't even have that much NHL experience yet. C'mon be realistic here.

His value was as the 6/7 dman since Cube is still swimming in the pool. Unless somebody gets recalled, they have only 5 experienced dmen and Blum with 2 NHL games. Zero backup depth.

Trotz on the trade

“I think, it was one of those situations where we realized that Jon Blum is ready and he is playing very very well. We recognize that, and we’re very happy with the younger guys that we have in the system. We’re pretty deep there. So there was an opportunity, I think we want to do it with all players. Sulz has been a fantastic pro and what have you. … “

Darn. When did I miss Milwaukee getting rid of Aaron Johnson, 225 NHL games, and Teemu Laakso, 8 NHL games. Sulzer only had 53. Besides, you don't think we can get another defenseman quickly who has more experience than Sulzer?

We will probably pick up some no-name from sweden or finland with that 7th round pick... like a hornqvist or a rinne. Who knows...

Sure, but it won't be free. From reading Trotz's quote it sounded like they were doing Sulzer more of a favor by sending him to FLA than anything else to do with the Preds. Obviously we knew Sulzer wouldn't be here next year anyway. Just saying the move hurts depth/flexibility on D.

Yeah, we'll pick up an obscure Fin or a Swede and he'll score 9 goals in his first game...

...As a goalie.

Everyone knows that the later the round for us, the more amazing the player.

I applaud the organization. Sulzer has been a pro and a good team player so we are helping him continue his career.

Sucks to not get much for him but BLum is the man. He is ready.

You mean this?: "We needed roster spots"

Yeah, I found this interesting since they're short with Sully going to the IR. Somebody isn't too good at math perhaps?

Is Sulzer's value really so low we couldn't at least get a guaranteed 7th for him? Geez

My prediction: we trade the conditional 7th for Zherdev (yes, I know we could have put in a waiver claim).
