This is CLEARLY for a roster spot. Even before the waiving of Sturm, we could've afforded to pick up someone who's cap hit was $18.2m (courtesy capgeek.com).

This move is for the roster spot. Either bringing Loktionov back up or in preparation for a trade.

So if he was waived for a trade can we make that trade now if Dean wanted to or do we have to wait to see what happends with Sturm? Can you put a player on waivers and take him off the active roster immediately or do you have to wait?

So if we were gonna make a trade, it couldn't be completed till tomorrow at noon when Sturm is off waivers, right?

Or could Dean just make the move any minute now?

I'm tired and was gonna go to bed before this whole waiver thing.

Schenn, Simmonds, Voynov and LA's 1st for Nash

Nash can't happen. The Jackets GM came out and said they're 100% buyers.

Vanek is a possibility I guess.

I don't think we can do anything until Noon tomorrow. Teams have until Noon EST tomorrow to submit claims. Even if someone submits a claim, that claim can't be accepted until Noon EST because other teams may want to put in a claim and have until that time to do so.

Come Noon EST tomorrow, he'll either clear and be assigned to Manchester, or have been claimed and gone elsewhere in the NHL. At that point, the roster spot would be available.

Go to bed, get some sleep, and dream of something crazy-awesome happening.

EDIT: At least we can't make anything official until tomorrow. I don't think anything is stopping DL from announcing a trade will occur once the roster spot officially opens up.

He doesn't really have to send Sturm down if he clears. Rather than call around for a deal just stick him on waivers and see if somebody's interested. But I would expect that Sturm would have to go if we picked up another LW anyway.

Couldnt he have just called up Loktionov (most likely prospect) after the trade deadline, doesnt the roster expand?

Why not just call up the prospect on Monday when rosters expand?

Exactly.

Of course, Sturm could clear waivers and then stay on the Kings. Clearing waivers just gives DL the freedom to send him to Manchester is he clears. Could happen tomorrow. Might not happen 'til Monday if/when a deal is made. Might not happen at all.

When has DL ever waived a veteran to make room for a prospect?

I think ( and I am usually wrong) teams only get three call ups after Monday. They may want to call someone up now and save the three spots for emergencies.
