Its easy to see that we are working at least one deal, anyone can see that simply by looking at what we have been up to both in the way we have been handling some of our players.

The supposed deal's though, even if we are adding two scoring players will come with a cost and while it is true that adding good players at the deadline can give a team a boost, they can also sometimes assure your team will suck and struggle forever, take a look at our past.

IF the right player is picked up then sure, great add but if it is another deal for the sake of making a deal then really why bother and to me that includes any player that may have solid talent but is so often injured that their presence becomes and expectation and their absence a major distraction.

Sell the farm for a quick fix or do what every top team has had to do, we'll find out.

Right now, we are missing a key weapon needed to do damage in the playoffs, regardless of how Kopi, DD and JJ play.
To me, a contender is a team that has a pretty legitimate shot at taking it all, not just a team that makes it into the playoffs. I really don't think the Kings have a legitimate chance at the Cup this season, Hemsky or no Hemsky.

Speaking of the Cup:

Year Winner Standings
2000: Devils 4th East
2001: Avs 1st West
2002: Red Wings 1st West
2003: Devils 2nd East
2004: Lightning 1st East
2005: Canes 2nd East
2006: Ducks 2nd West
2007: Red Wings 1st West
2008: Penguins 4th East
2009: Blackhawks 2nd West

So what have we learned? Not much other then it's not a good thing to be 1st! That and as we have a legit shot at as far up the standings as 3rd we also can do well in the playoffs.

I think we'll be fine as long as nobody claims Marco Sturm. IF we can manage to keep him we should buckle our seatbelts for a long playoff run.

I just want some sort of trade to go down soon just so Westgarth doesn't have to play tomorrow.

With no Sturm, we pretty much would have to play Westy.

Sturm will clear for there cannot be a GM so desperate as to add him and not make any other deals which is what his contract size may warrant. Then he'll play.

It's all just twitter junk. I don't see the point of a link for one sentence that doesn't say anything specific and has already been cut & pasted.

Well adding Hemsky might not get you the cup this year, adding him now could take you farther than last year plus you still have him next year when you can add another piece to make you win the friggen thing, see future it's not like Hemsky is going anywhere after this season. You add Hemmer now for a "playoff run" and then next year add the last piece to go all the way baby.

Why couldn't LA challenge for the cup if they add Hemsky? Look at the Oilers last cup run, they had a great defenseman (Pronger/Doughty), great goaltending (Roloson/Quick), and 1 legit top line player in Hemsky. It's amazing how things can come together out of the blue, those of you that are saying that there's no way it could happen, IMO as long as Doughty ups his game to the level it was at last year's Olympics, it's possible. I wouldn't be on it, but I surely wouldn't be everything I had against it either.

Richards is a great player, but some things concern me about a potential trade for him.

1. While the Kings have an obvious hole at #2 center, there is a much larger hole on first line winger.

2. The cost. The Kings aren't getting Richards for lower level prospects like Hickey and Teubert. While I don't see us moving Schenn for him, say goodbye to players like Forbort or Loktionov + maybe roster players like Simmonds and Martinez.

3. Richards plays the point on the PP, the Kings PP is not bad because of point players. We desperately need a finisher on the PP that can score from the slot and circles.

4. Richards is an UFA

Richards becomes a King and Kopitar becomes the #2 center.

Or he plays wing like he did in Tampa and Dallas at points.

Sure, that is also possible. My comment was that if he does play center, he is likely on the first line...which would be very good for Kopi. Take the spotlight off him.

The Kings are a good team in every facet of the game except one; the power play. LA is currently ranked 11th in 5on5 goals for. Pretty good, and the best they've ranked since the 90's. (Even better then the LAPD team)

5on5 F/A: 1.13 (6th)
5on5 Goals For: 115 (11th)
Team GAA: 2.36 (4th)
PK: 84.6% (6th)
Goal Diff: 16 (7th) [Not counting SO]

^
These are the stats of a top level team, and that's why I think we're closer than most realize. It's just the PP holding us back.
