Really? Because the book on Dunderdale is that he's an atrocious playmaker, which is why I thought he's so difficult to build around at center.

I believe I saw comparisons to Nels Stewart level of playmaking.

And the vast majority of his accomplishments are at center, so he definitely loses some amount of effectiveness by moving him to wing.

Edit: Didn't the PCHA only have 4 teams for much of its existence? That means 12 forward spots plus 4 rover spots. So a "top 20" finish is pretty... expected of anyone.

This study adjusts scoring finishes to merge the NHA, PCHA, and WCHL into a combined top-20.

From the study:
Top-5s: 1
Top-10s: 3
Top-15s: 5
Top-20s: 6

Well, Nels wasn't too bad of a playmaker. He had quite a number of pretty solid years. So I wouldn't say it a terribly bad thing for Dunderdale to compare to him in playmaking.

Damn, I just realized how badly I wanted Ulf Samuelsson on my team. 40-odd picks to go

By the way, I have PM'd everyone that is up before my selection already, so there is no need to send further PMs after advantage picks or gets skipped.

uh, why? For one, yours is stating "you may be up within the next little while or at max within a couple of clock lengths" which everyone can already figure out. Secondly, there's no harm in getting extra PM's.

PM the next GM no matter what IMHO.

Nighthawks gave me a player to pick if he isn't back when his pick comes up.

I'll be around when the clock runs out so we'll be rolling through 2 more pretty quickly.

Ah, crap. You're right. For some reason I had it as 11:02. That said, if he hasn't been here by now, I don't think he'll be here. Still, Nighthawks should edit his post, I guess.

BC, I'll be around if you're not. You can leave me your list and I'll make your pick and mine when/if adv2k6 gets skipped.

Nice picks guys.

If Jimmy Shoemakerfields was the BDA a few picks back, this guy certainly wasn't that far behind. In fact, I'm not sure if there's a whole hell of a lot of difference between Terry Harper and Shoemakerfields.

Lester Patrick - Terry Harper. Looks good to me! PM'ing next.

An interesting thing about Harper's 8th in Norris voting:

NORRIS: (162-162)
1. Harry Howell, NYR 113 (79-34)
2. Pierre Pilote, Chi 95 (32-63)
3. Bobby Orr, Bos 36 (10-26)
4. Tim Horton, Tor 34 (19-15)
5. J.C. Tremblay, Mtl 18 (9-9)
6. ***, Det 8 (0-8)
7. ***, Chi 7 (0-7)
T8. Terry Harper, Mtl 5 (5-0)

He was 8th, but two guys ahead of him had no first place votes, whereas he got 5.

Quick bio on Vitaly Davydov

- 7x 1st team all star Russian Super league
- 3x Olympic Gold Medalist
-Ranked 4th on the All-Time Russian Olympic List (Ahead of: Mikhailov, Kharlamov,Makarov,Krutov,Kasatonov, and Maltsev)
http://www.chidlovski.com/personal/1...s/rutop10i.htm

-9x consecutive World Champion 1963-71

***Disclaimer This quote is from HF board poster "Dark Shadows" but he knows a lot about older era Russian Hockey.

Regarding 72 Summit Series:

Quote:
For the record, Russian was missing several Key players too. Such as Anatoli Firsov(A guy almost as good as Kharlamov) and Vitaly Davydov(The Russians top shutdown defenseman), etc

Quote:
Davydov was one of the best players in Soviet hockey history in the years prior to 1972. However a controversial coaching change seems to have prevented Davydov's participation in the series.

The Russians dumped the "father of Soviet hockey" as their national team head coach a few months prior to the Summit Series. Out was xxxxxxx, in was former superstar Vsevolod Bobrov. The move did not go over smoothly, especially with older Russian players who were fierce xxxxx loyalist.

Davydov's absence is not as clear. There are no sources that explain Davydov's situation nearly as well. Many say that he was a XXXXX supporter, but all fall short of claiming he was boycotting because of the change in coaches.

Never lost a major tournament from 1963-1971

Can you tell us a little bit about his overall skills Mark? I always saw Davydov as an offensive defenceman first, good defensively, but a soft, non-physical defenceman. I probably havn't read on him as much as you though.
