Boynton came out of the pressbox in the Cup Final last year & was pretty effective. I like it

With the lowest cap hit possible and upcmoing UFA status I'm very happy with it.

Rather have Boynton sitting in the pressbox than Gustaffson, let the kid play and develop.

The Hawks fans seem happy to be rid of him. I presume he'll just be around so we don't end up having to use wingers at D if the **** really hits the fan.

Official now.

@NHLFlyers: GM Paul Holmgren confirms that the Flyers have claimed Nick Boynton off of waivers from Chicago.

I hope for your guys' sake that he doesn't play very much. He was absolutely atrocious this year. He blocks shots, hits, and will stand up for his team mates, but he pinches at the wrong times and turns the puck over far too often.

Yes, we are happy to rid ourselves of him. Even at $500k it's overpayment.

He'll only be playing if injuries really start to get to us.

Excellent pick up....

Playing with Meszaros would be a lot better then playing with anyone Chicago has on the bottom pairing.

Boynton is the perfect #7 for this team.

I know, all i'm saying is, you better hope you don't get any injuries. You guys thought Bartulis and Krajicek were bad..wait till you see Boynton.

Rather him get top pairing minutes on the Phantoms then #6 minutes (if that) on a team trying to win a cup in the Flyers. Let him develop in the AHL, this team is trying to win it all.

Nice. Insurance never hurts. This can't really hurt in any way including the cap.

Not if they don't have to. In a perfect world, you'd like to have 8 defenseman for the stretch-run and playoffs who you trust, and none of which are rookies in the AHL.

You also can't claim someone and then send him down to the minors, he has to clear waivers to be sent down.

I'm ok with the signing, with Bartulis out we need another #7 and Boynton's salary fits that. I'd also rather have him than Gustafsson being in the pressbox. Hopefully he'll be lifted by playing with someone like Meszaros rather than Jordan Hendry if/when he's called in to play. He was a pretty good d-man for Boston a few seasons ago.

Do the Flyers ever want their AHLers to play in the NHL? Holmgren usually does as much as possible to ensure they never get a chance.

Just depth. He's cheap and a vet.

Hopefully Gus with get OD spot next year when he retires. It's about time we try to bring up one of our own dmen.

He'll have to beat out Oskars first.
