A was fan asked me what I thought about Sturms play and after giving it some consideration I had to say that I honestly didn't have one. He is Marco Sturm so you know what his capabilities were, what they are today we really didn't get to see him play enough at 100% to really determine what he has left.
So, he is a vet that can score some and is really really fragile was all that I had.
What an unfortunate combination of events for the Kings. Sturm getting claimed is no big deal if Lotki is able to be called up. Now with his injury, we just got worked.
Yeah puts us also in a bit worse position from a trade standpoint making us even more desperate for a top 6 winger.
As for Sturm, I never really knew much about him but I wish we had more time to evaluate him. As for attitude it seems he was what we needed, another true pro who can help to keep the kids in check - esp come playoff time.
I think it's just a timing thing though, and I assume something is in the works. I don't think you waive a top 6 guy (injured or not), unless something is in the works and/or it was personal issues.
The Kings still have four left wings. Assuming they will acquire another one (my speculation) Sturm probably wouldn't have even played. So I view the loss as one affecting today's game and maybe Monday's.
Frankly, I'm happy for him. It beats being left off the playoff roster or sent to the minors.
To be honest, I didn't think Sturm was terrible. He even got in the first fight of his career when he stood up for Stoll being kneed. Definitely better than Halpern was last year and they still played that stiff.
Could care less about losing Sturm. Just absolutely frustrated as hell that they jerked around Loktionov. The kid added an element the team desperately lacked and now he is unavailable because he was injured playing in a league he had no business in.
The killer is that while I have no doubt that Lombardi knew this would be a possibility, I'm sure he didn't think Lokti would get injured the night before. What if he was a trade piece? I guess if he were, you would think they would've scratched him, but now that's one less option on the table. Lokti was contributing to wins, moreso than what Sturm was doing for us. Now, this could blow up in Dean's face completely if we get nothing at the deadline.
