If you don't want him, can you send him to the Habs?

I'm sure he'd be better than Halpern on our first line with Cammalleri & Plekanec.

Thanks!

I really really like this move. He could play with semin or add some much needed offense to our 3rd line. Now we just need a 2C.

I guess this says all it needs to say about the chances of us adding more salary.

Either we're in for a big shakeup (salary out ~= salary in) or we're in for depth additions.

We'll see what happens.

What's his cap hit off waivers? Still 2.2? At least he's a veteran.

It can't hurt...Adds depth scoring for free. It makes me think the Caps aren't done though. Claiming Sturm and calling up Beagle means there are a lot of extra forwards.

And the Caps put DJ King on waivers.

Quote:
Put on waivers today (with period ending Monday at noon ET): Bret Carson (Car), Jason Jaffray (Ana), DJ King (Wash), Nathan Lawson and Rob Schremp (NYI), Pascal Leclaire (Ott), Ty Conklin (StL), Curtis McElhinney (TB) and Tim Stapleton (Atl).

Sounds good to me.

Could be a useful player, and the cap hit will prevent any "panic" moves for expensive rentals. Hopefully.

How much cap space do the Caps have left after this? 3-3.5, something like that?

They still have plenty of room.

Might as well, he never gets played. As for Sturm, not surprised at all. It could work out well and we gave up nothing to get him.

beagle called up because perreault is down. sturm likely would not arrive in time for the game anyway. for all we know mcphee grabbed sturm with the idea of trading laich or fehr or any number of other players.

i'll be interested to see the numbers breakdown from sk8 after this move. how much annual cap hit can they take on at the deadline.

I think the rough ballpark is ~$3.75M remaining as far as annual cap hits go. Not factoring in any potential LTIR flexibility.

And they can always subtract King, Beagle, Perreault to add a little more maneuverability.

Yeah they have about another 3.7 million in cap space left. In other words a similar contract to Sturms could be traded for without having to dump any salary.

eh. why not. it's ted's money.

it doesn't seem clear to me that sturm gives a **** about winning professional ice hockey games anymore. 7 games, 0 pts in the payoffs last year. but feel free to prove me wrong, buddy.

Love the op pick.

I love free candy. Hopefully sturm is the kind of candy you find ON the table in lunchroom after Halloween and not the kind you find stuck under the table.

well you can always find some stats to prove something. Just taken one series tells you nothing about the quality of a player.

He's had 20 goals every season of his career in which he's played a meaningful number of games. Injury prone, but seems like a sure-fire contributor if he is in the lineup.

For anyone pissing and moaning about Kovalev, this should make them happy. Half the cap hit, and we don't waste a pick.

Waste a 7th? I agree though, better pick-up than Kovalev if he's not injured.

Still, it makes total sense to move Semin for the best C they can get.

But less prone to dominating in the playoffs, and potentially much less healthy.

Then again, less likely to be a cancer in the locker room.

I would have been meh either way, for the record. If anything this makes me more curious than ever to see what else GMGM has up his sleeve (combined with the Beagle callup).

Why was perrault sent down?

If this means we can't get Richards I'm extremely pissed. We needed a high quality center to replace one of those rookies and Arnott is not a 2C anymore.

Trade Semin to Dallas for Richards and a Dman
