RT @TSNBobMcKenzie: PHI will assign (temporarily) James van Riemsdyk to AHL to make room for Boynton. With Pronger out, PHI needs Boynton/Gustafsson now.

We weren't the only ones putting in claims yesterday. Marco Sturm is snapped up by Washington and Craig Rivet by Columbus, Rivet was on re-entry. If Sturm can ever stay healthy that's a pretty nice addition for the Caps. I watched them get beaten soundly by NYR and right now they are probably desperate for some secondary scoring. It's too easy to focus on Ovechkin-Bäckström-Semin, because the rest of the Caps are barely glancing at the net. Rivet is probably done after this season, his play has dropped significantly, but I guess Columbus aren't too comfortable playing all of Strålman, Russell and Clitsome.

Just beat me.

This is less than ideal.

Um, that makes no sense, doesn't he have enough games to require re-entry waivers?

Good pickup. Another guy with a Cup. Can't have enough defensive depth come playoff time.

Delighted with this, he played for my team in England during the lock-out! He was absolutely sensational then and scored the greatest goal i've ever seen there, an un-screened slapshot from the blue line in the play-off final. Ripped into the top corner, still lost though.

You have to clear waivers to then clear re-entry waivers, so no.

I'm not on Twitter, but I have to assume you made this up.

So, does this mean you're gonna follow in the footsteps of Wolfy, DenverBoone and Vera now?

I figured someone minor or a pick might get moved to make something like this happen.

Now, we don't lose anything.

Hopefully this means that a move will be made for a depth winger maybe?

I wonder what happened to this guy, he used to be a decent young defender, then went steadily down hill

Boynton played for Laviolette in the Bruins' system, with Providence.

He was a holdout with the Bruins and then had a rough season impacted due to injuries. Boynton, too, was supposedly close to Joe Thornton. He had shoulder surgery at one point. From there, he was shipped to Phoenix. With the Panthers, he was temporarily sent home from the team by Jacques Martin a couple of years ago.

Eh, league minimum 7th defenseman works for me.

He was added for the same role he played in the post season with Chicago last year. To come out of the pressbox if there is an injury.

He is steady if put with the right player, and the Flyer D is deeper then that of Chicago last year and this year so if he does play it will be with better players making it better for him.

Can't argue with adding a player at $500,000 willing to block shots, make some hits, fight if need be to play as the 6th man if there is an injury.

Solid Waiver claim

Panaccio mentioned on twitter that Pronger is out tonight. Gus gets his shot.

I like VERY much. Esp against a hapless Ott team.

Boynton is great news, good character guy, TEAM FIRST attitude. Depth will never hurt you.

Even if he had enough games, his AHL salary is too low for re-entry.

I wanted Rivet really. Good locker room guy and has been a captain. But no problem with Boynton as a 7th D man. For the salary appeal and UFA status alone. Hoping a vet winger will now be added for the cup run
