Nice trade, it's definitely weird how Sather can be so bad in free agency yet so good in trades. Expert negotiator with other GMs, yet terrible negotiator with player agents?

Saying Gilroy or MDZ is like saying "Dubinsky or Dale Weise." An MDZ trade will be a big one. A Gilroy one will be Sather trade magic.

You said it yourself: We gave up nothing significant.

I have no problem with making this team a little better this year at no cost to our future. It's not like we were a lottery bound team and this was going to mess up our first round pick. A nice playoff run in preparation for next year with Brad Richards wouldn't exactly hurt our kids' development. Winning a round or two might even make us a more attractive option for Richards in July.

He played for good teams in Toronto before the lockout.

This. Del Zotto is going to figure it out. He just needs to play, and I really hope he doesn't get sent back down, either.

Like to see Gilroy moved, though.

If it was for Richards I doubt Gilroy would be a part of the package, but MDZ probably would. Just because Gilroy isn't really valuable at all.

Glen couldn't dump Gilroy in this deal?

Tim Kennedy has more value than him.

He's kind of a source. Not as reliable as any of the TSN guys but more reliable than Eklund. He's really protective when people call him out.

I've been scouting him lately, to get some perspective on him since he haven't really been flying in the spotlight in like 3 years or something.

Look, offensively he is a shooter. FLA have used him on the left side a lot, but like we all remember, in Tor he always played the right side. On the PP he plays to the right to be able to one-time it.

And he have been around before. He doesn't panic, especially in the sunshine state were there have been zero pressure/attention on him. He have his limits -- having possibly the worst agility in the entire NHL. He is a smart defensive player, kind of like Girardi, but is a worse skater -- so he better be well position lol or he finds himself two zones behind the play in a hurry.

You gotta like his attitude now (I can't say it impressed me when he was on the Island or in Toronto). He have taken on a leadership role in FLA.

This is kind of my outlook on him.

This year
I would not be suprised if he didn't make us much better if at all any better. McCabe is not better on the point then say a Kotalik, possibly even worse. You gotta set him up, if you do a perfect job at setting him up -- he could still pot 20-25 goals. But in every other area, taking the puck up ice et c, passing it, he is definitely not something special.

But, he takes pressure of MDZ, and thats the key for sure.

I afraid that we will look waaaay too much for him, and become predictable et c.

The future
I think McCabe could become a perfect "6th D"-veteran/physical/shooting presence on the blueline for us for the coming 2 years after this season. We have a very young blueline, and it could certainly help a lot to have someone like McCabe on it going forward. But then he can't cost much more then like 2.5-3m per to make sense.

The McCabe deal was a great deal. I just hope they don,t trade MDZ I think he has the potential to be a solid 10 year player.

Definitely I don't see MDZ being traded unless he's in a package for Richards.

I could see Gilroy to Toronto for a low pick.

Burke's been looking for a dman right? And I believe the Leafs were interested in Gilroy when we signed him.

Also, any confirmation on waivers with TK?

No way should we trade DZ unless we get another young player who could potentially be our PP QB of the future in return. I haven't given up on this kid yet. We trade DZ for Richards without finding someone to replace him leaves a massive hole on this roster for the long-term.
