I dont know what games some of you guys have been watching but Del Zotto has been light years better than Gilroy.

MDZ's passes have been much better and he hasn't been hesitating with the puck.

Gilroy has no future with this team. None whatsoever. MDZ played well after Staal went down and I thought his game against the Caps was his best in a long time, at least defensively.

MDZ should have stayed until Staal was healthy. When Staal comes back, send MDZ to Hartford and sit Gilroy the scrub.

Only rationale behind demoting MDZ is that Gilroy is about to be traded and MDZ would have been a healthy scratch.

But if the question is: who is a better NHL d-man -- MDZ or Gilroy???? The answer is most certainly Del Zotto

That's how bad Gilroy is.

Lets get real....Gilroy hasn't been that bad. He's had a couple of break-downs, but so has everyone else on the blueline. Its quite obvious now that Rosy is gone, Gilroy is the new whipping boy. Would it be nice if Gilroy was producing more offense? Yes. But he has been relatively solid defensively, which is OK.

MDZ being sent down is absolutely the right move. He needs to play a ton of minutes in order for him to get his game back on track. He's still very young with a ton of upside but still needs work. He still gets caught running around in his own end. He needs to settle down and let the play develop rather than force it.

I just dont see it. I see him blindly throwing the puck up the boards, getting beaten to the outside and most importantly, not taking or initiating contact.

Del Zotto, even when he is at his worst, still has the best first pass on the team.

No, Gilroy has been that bad. MDZ has been better IMO.

Good move. He shouldn't have been brought back up in the first place. Let the kid work on his game. I would leave him there for the rest of this season and into next year if necessary. We rushed him. Nice to see the Rangers are practicing what they preach and showing patience with our young players. Forcing a kid to develop his game at the NHL level when he isn't ready isn't showing patience.

you can keep saying it. it's just not true. mdz is still way off. this is a solid move by the management. a long run with plenty of minutes will help him and the team in the long run. gilroy is solid enough for a 6th d right now.

The Rangers trading for Mcacbe was an admission that club has given up on DZ for the near term. Torts wanted to send him back down months ago but was desperate for anyone to QB the PP. DZ didn't deliver so it makes sense to see if he can further his game in the AHL. HE still has a bright future.

Uhm, except it is true. Gilroy has been horrendous. MDZ is in Hartford because he has talent and is young. Gilroy is not an NHL d-man.

I don't know, what if they don't find the right deal? We have a game tomorrow, so with McCabe's arrival, someone had to go down. Regardless of what moves we may or may not make, we still have to maintain our roster. Gilroy and Eminger would have to be waived, so it's not going to be them.

I don't think MDZ will be traded, I'll add. I just don't think anything trade-wise can be inferred from this demotion, nor does it impact his value in any way.

I'd bet money that if we get Richards, DZ will be going the other way.

I was joking. I think the best thing for this kid is to become a star in the AHL then bring him up.

With no callups, and Del Zotto+Newbury down this may mean that if Fedotenko is out tomorrow that we may dress 7 dmen, including Gilroy. Correct me if I am wrong.

Newbury has not been sent down, merely waived.

MDZ is a LD. now we have Staal/McD/McC on the left. mdz gets to go down and work on his game and play more hockey. win win for us and him right now.

The only reason MDZ was brought back up in the first place was due to injuries.
His game has gone backwards.

great. he can work on his game and develop this way. He wasn't getting the minutes up here that he needed to. Was probably averaging 13 minutes lately. He needs to be playing 25 minutes like he was down in the OHL. When he's ready, he'll be ready. This also makes him a lot cheaper to resign when his ELC is up.

There are a couple reasons MDZ got sent down:

- He gets to play top pairing minutes instead of 10 minutes in the NHL
- Gilroy is still being shopped around cause they want to get something for him since they will not bring him back
- With 8 defensemen, someone has to be sent down
- He is part of the future, but Eminger and Gilroy are part of the present, which if we want to make the playoffs, we are better off using them for 12 minutes a night over a 20 year old defender.
- Even though McCabe can play both sides, Torts prefers having people play natural sides, left on left, right on right. Once Staal comes back, DZ would have no spot.

He does not fit in with this line-up:

Staal-Girardi
McCabe-Sauer
McDonagh-Eminger/Gilroy
Eminger/Gilroy
