The guy consistently plays solid hockey at both ends of the ice, and is a big reason the D is considered among the league's best. And he's still young and developing.

Let's trade him for garbage like Brad Boyes asap!
Funny, then, that the other team scores more often with Carle on the ice than any other D that we've dressed this year.

And on one of those goals all he had to do was take the hit to make the ****ing play. Instead cowardly shifts away from the puck while trying to push it with 1 hand on his stick

I would have to agree, just has mental lapses most games that stick out like a sore thumb.

He really hasn't showed up they way he could or should this year... I'd rather him traded for another shutdown D man. Someone who hits hard and is relentless...

Interesting. From BroadStBull:

Nik Zherdev talked to the media today. He had a productive meeting with Lavy and Homer and may play again this yr. For #Flyers. Really.

Pannacio: Laviolette met twice privately w/Zherdev this week. Z's attitude today was very positive. Even talked about it. Z says he wants to stay.

Carle is not a great defender. He is a great puck mover.

He is what he is, nothing more. I think some people here overvalue him while some underrate him...the truth is, he's a good guy to have but by no means is he really critical to our team.

That said, it doesn't make sense to just throw him away, either. The only way I move Carle is if there's someone else to fill that puck-moving need coming up, or if the return on the trade is just awesome.

if we get a productive Z these last 20 games , watch out. 20 games is enough for him to find some chemistry with some guys, and maybe just maybe be the cure for our pp.

Until he complains to Homer in the playoffs that he is not getting enough PP time.....yeah, No Thanks. The PP has enough pieces to be successful and they need to be accountable to get the job done, Zherdev can go pick daisy's in Glens Falls in the spring.

The problem with the PP is not that it's missing one magical player.

It's that it's missing one magical Zherdev. Pretty obvious imo.

Big right handed shot to take some pressure of Pronger or Timonen. When was the last time we had one on the PP?

I see the official whipping boy is getting some flack again. My disappointment with Carle isn't his defensive play, but his lack of goal scoring. We all know his limitations as a defender, but he really needs to sack up and score some goals. If he doesn't score more and contribute more on the power play, I could see him going on the block.

He has a terrible shot from the point, so I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. He has a decent wrist shot when he's in a position to use it, but that's a sporadic thing for D. He probably could have a couple more goals, but it's never going to be something that comes with any regularity for him. The one year he put up a high total he had a 9.9 shooting %, which is a bit silly for a D.

I presume that was the year he was being fed by Thornton on the PP. His point shot is non-existent, but like you mentioned he does have a capable wrist shot if he's in the right spot.

Zherdev has the abilty to be the greatest player on the ice. I just wish we could see it. Maybe if he has to play tonight, we will see it. I would really love to see what Zherdev could do in the play-offs on Carter and Giroux's wing.

Well from waivers to best player on the ice against the Senators. (Not my assessment, but the CSN man known as "Jonesy". Albeit not saying much with a team that just had no steam tonight. Too bad Z didn't get that first goal on the breakaway. That's his bread and butter. Seemed to be talking to his teammates more, and Richards actually gave him a pat on the bench after Z stopped the puck with his skate and got a shot off. He needs to light one up and build some confidence. Good start though. Good for him!

Yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. Even if he plays well the next few games, I don't see it lasting. We've seen this play out before. Play well...slack off...get benched...play well...slack off...get benched. Until he plays well (meaning defense etc, not just look fancy in the offensive zone) for a considerable amount of time, I will just keep expecting him to come out with a lackluster effort. Hopefully I'm wrong and being paranoid because it sure would be great to have a 100% effective head in the game Zherdev in the playoffs, I'm just not holding my breath.
