Richards VIA Trade, Stastny Via Trade, Richards VIA UFA, or Stand Pat?

Easy enough question. Which way should we go?

Because of the assets we'd have to give up in trades, I'm gonna say sign Richards in free agency.

givign up assets is ok if 1) you have the assets, and 2) youre getting back something you dont have currently in the system.

Go for it and get me Stastny.

We have nothing like him in the system. hes a bonafide #1 center not even in the prime of his career yet, and we have the redundant assets to go get him.

Lundqvist
Staal
Dubinsky
Gaborik
Callahan
Stepan
Anisimov
Girardi
McDonagh
Sauer
Kreider
McIlrath
Del Zotto

If we can get Richards without any of those guys going to Dallas, then I'd say trade for him.

But, its not likely.

So, based on the choices of the poll... sign Richards as a UFA on July 1st.

Get Richard's... now.

I'm confident in the fact that our core will not be broken up to get him by Monday. Maybe MDZ goes the other way with some other prospect - Grachev? - and picks or something, but oh well. MDZ is replaceable, as is Grachev.
Bringing Richard's in, instantly changes this team from fringe playoff team, to contender.

Next year, yes, contenders.

This year, if Richards and Gaborik can't play (they're both out with concussions, which is surreal) then we're the same team we are now, minus a couple players lost in the trade...

Yeah, there is risk. There's also the risk that if we don't get him now, we don't get him at all.

Chances are they're both back for the playoffs, which makes us a very dangerous team

I've often considered a trade for Stastny,,, problem is they have enough space to sign all their RFAs when they render. Duchene and Stastny will be a top-notch 1-2 punch for a long time. given those factors, why would the Avs do it... unless they really want Wolski back? Or a good winger (we don't have any to expend), experience _ quality to replace Stastny (Christensen doesn't fit the bill and Drury is useless, even to his old team) and/or - like us - experience on D (Eminger?). Those things considered, why would they trade him?

For ***** and giggles, I'd include Stepan or Anisimov, Grachev or Kreider, or a 1st and Wolski. Yup.

But they'd ask for Callahan or Dubinsky.

I'm really not sure I want to give Richards the money.

Really depends what it takes to get Stastny. I'd rather have him though.. if he really is available, you can't pass him up. I think hes a franchise center.

Aves are stating that Stastny/Foote/Hedjuk are NOT available, per NHL Live.

Stay the course, sign the RFA's and make a play for Richards.

Am I the only guy on here who is extremely impressed at how this young team is probably going to make the playoffs without the benefit of dominant seasons from both gaborik and Lundqvist?

Still, you have to make a run at Richards because Drury's contract is gone in a year, the Salary cap is going up, and the team is probably a few more years away until Stepan or AA can be considered a ture No. 1 center (and I don't mean being called a No. 1 because they center gabby's line"

But trading prospects right now is just plain stupid.

Stay the course.

If I knew Richards would make it to July 1 as an UFA, it becomes an easier decision. I doubt he will. I'm from the go big or go home school...go big and make the deal for either Richards or Stasny right now.

Foote has an NTC, Hejduk has an NMC

25 combined years in the Denver area. They probably told the FO that they won't waive it for family reasons, and either plan on retiring next season or taking a hometown discount.

As far as Statsny goes, yeah i can see why they won't trade him. At least not now.

I'm torn between 3 and 4. I could be ok with signing Richards in the offseason IF the contract is right. But ultimately he's still a 31 year old coming off of a concussion. Assuming his health is back to 100% you still have a guy we can only hope maintains his level of play for a few years before his inevitable decline. Unless he comes on a short term deal I have to wonder whether he is the right guy for the job. Bottom line is I'd rather gamble and risk not getting him at all then pay dearly for a guy with health concerns who is about to be a declining talent.

Trade for him now. If he gets traded somewhere, he will sign there because he controls the team he goes to. If another team picks him up, like LA, he will sign there and we won't get him in July. If he stays in Dallas then he might make it to free agency, but actually he will be dealt at the draft and signed by the team that gets him, so we'd have to deal for his rights at that time.

If we trade for him, we will sign him. If we don't trade for him now, we run the risk that someone else will, thus losing the chance to sign him as a UFA. Now for something that everyone so far has overlooked .... if he's a UFA there's going to be a bidding war, and during a bidding war his price goes UP.... but if we sign him before July we will sign him for CHEAPER!

Spot on... he controls where he gets traded to...The chance of him signing with the team he's traded is what makes me want Sather to go for it even if he's out for longer.. We all know if the Rangers get him at the deadline he will be a ranger for many years...
