Strang:Martinek getting a lot of interest

Earlier in the day,it was reported that Snow was close to dealing Martinek for a 2nd rounder.I thought that rumor came from Dee Karl.

Now Newsday's Strang is tweeting, that Radek Martinek's drawing a lot of interest.

I am guessing the fact he has a 1.5M caphit will make it easy for alot of teams to fit him under the cap

trade him for a 2nd rounder and then draft day try and use 2 of the three to upgrade the team or trade up.

I'm going to guess he ends up in Detroit.

Hawks have three 2nd's and I'd definitely move one of them for Martinek.

I wouldn't be upset if we moved the Hawks 2nd (I believe it will be highest at end compared to Flames/Thrashers)

I take anything Katie Strang has to say with a grain of salt....she definitely has more access to the team than anybody else, but she will basically "report" whatever Snow says. Could easily see him using her to try to garner interest where there isn't much.

Not that I don't think there should be a market for Martinek, given his ability and price, just don't trust Strang that much.

Radek Martinek is easily the second most under rated player on the Isles behind Frans Neilsen....... and Frans Neilsen is one of the most under rated players in the entire NHL.

I hope the Isles re-sign him.

he is perfect for what we need, the thought of him and Leddy together now that Nick Pylonton is gone absolutely makes me giddy. now if we can only get them to send us Nielsen too, We could keep the Cup right where it is baby.......

get it done Stan, please get it done

I've been predicting all along that Martinek will get traded to the Blackhawks.

The reason he's so under-rated is probably partly because he wasn't consistently healthy before this season. He had a lot of injury problems but he's a good player. Right-handed shot, cheap cap hit, good defensive defenseman who will block a lot of shots. A lot of teams probably want him and are calling Snow about him. I believe that all the way.

I wouldn't say he is a good shot blocker, but he is good positionally and can cover for his partner(on a team like Chicago for instance it might be smart to pair him up with Campbell). His biggest weakness is his injury history

I never thought of that, that might be a good idea

WMVP ESPN 1000's Kevin Winter speculated earlier today that the Islanders asked for a 2nd and a 4th, if he can really cover for Campbell i'd do it

Was just going to post something like this. Martinek is a very good and very underrated defenseman. Whichever teams ends up with him will be very happy; and if the Isles are smart, they will keep him and sign him to an extension if they don't get really good value.

He's been here forever..... and I can honestly say that not a single time can I ever remember saying to myself that he made a stupid decision, or a lazy play.

Obviously, he has his limitations.... but he'd be good enough to be a 2nd pairing defenseman on just about any team headed to the playoffs.

Marty can definitely help a team needing solid, safe and sometimes surprisingly good play from a 5-7 Dman in the playoffs.

He deserves a chance to play with a competitive team as well. Very humble, hardhat worker who has always been down-to-earth and respectful of the opportunity to be a pro athlete.

Wouldn't be surprised if they get a conditional late first round pick for him, or a second round pick. This draft is very weak.
