Pipe dream maybe, but I'm calling Shero's bluff on this one.
NO way in hell he makes that move with 4.2 cap on the books for next year!

True, sorry I was just throwing out names. Didn't think hard enough.

Imagine how much of a floater Kovalev will look like playing along side Crosby.

Does Kovalev have hands? Yes.

Then he is better than Pascal Dupuis, who has neither effort nor hands. Dupuis has been the worst player on the ice consistently since Crosby left the ice. He's like Kip Miller without Jaromir Jagr, a useless abomination in the name of hockey.

People can say all they want about Neal and Kovalev's consistent work ethic...fact remains they have ridiculous shots. We haven't had a winger that could score a goal from outside 10 feet since Hossa.

Even if Crosby doesn't come back this year this opens the door for a cheapo signing of Kovalev to finish his career in Pittsburgh if he still even wants to play in the NHL. I guarantee he will make 5 times more in Russia than he would here though.

You seem upset that the Habs were not able to get Kovalev.

Pfft, the one thing Dupuis has in spades is effort.

I feel he gets too hard a rap on the Pens' board. Might be because every fan base needs a scapegoat, or just because he's weighing Sid down.

I am excited he's not the first option at RW any more though.

I've been one of Dupuis' only supporters these past few years...he doesn't deserve support this year.

I've always said he's a third liner that has been miscast, an unfortunate necessity of a team that spends so much on centers, defenders, and goalties...but he's been utterly outplayed by AHLers this year. That is to say AHLers with full-time jobs (Conner, who has also been lousy of late) and part-times (Vitale is making Talbot easy to forget, regardless of Talbot still being in the line-up, Sterling playing the Dupuis role better than Dupuis ever has, or Johnson just blowing everyone away in his short cameo before, of course, getting injured).

Dupuis doesn't offer this team anything more than a replacement player could. I wouldn't mind him returning as a bottom sixer at a slightly reduced salary...but he'll never have a reduced role with Bylsma. He is Bylsma's poison. Every coach has that player that they have an unhealthy obsession with...Dupuis is better than Therrien's Ouellet, but still...Dupuis is a mediocre third/good fourth liner who is treated like a first liner here.

I'm just thankful that Shero has a history of making 'unpopular' decisions...he non-tendered Ouellet when everyone seemed to think he was worth a 2nd rounder at worse...Ouellet is now a .5 PPG player in Germany...

Every coach is going to have that one player that they love way more than they should. Dupuis is a solid NHLer, and he is an NHLer...but he's nowhere near as good as Dan Bylsma seems to think he is.

Great trade for the Penguins. Very low risk, high reward trade and at worst they lose a 6th. Pretty good trade for the Senators too.

The Penguins got a talented winger in Kovalev and if he finds his game back, he'll be dangerous. He's still got a lot of skill and good hands. It's just a matter of if he puts in the effort or not. They gave up almost nothing so it was a risk worth taking.

The Senators wanted to get rid of Kovalev for a while as rumored. The return is almost nothing, but it's better than letting him walk for nothing and paying the rest of his salary. They save actual dollars which is good for them. Kovalev had very little to no value anyway with his NTC, his cap hit, and his production in the past few years. Murray was dumb enough to give him that contract in the first place but at least he got something for him now.

Kovalev could retire a Penguin when all is said and done. I don't see him getting anything close to the money he made this year in free agency this summer.

Welcome back, Kovy.

I've never been madder than the day they traded him to the Rangers. I almost quit being a fan of the team over it because he was my favorite player back then and I was an angry teenager. I tried to not watch the team after that, but turned it on before the 1st period of the next game was over. We sucked so bad back then and sat through some more terrible years after that. I never thought I'd see Kovy return, but I'm happy he will be. I just hope he has a little something left.

Shows how much Kovalev's value has gone down. He was traded for a conditional pick. I at least thought Ottawa would get a mid-level prospect back for him.

Kovys recent seasons and overall lack of effort would seemingly make this a low risk low reward if any but heres a few things im banking on....

1) Hes in his last contract year and will need to show some effort to get paid enough to warrant staying in the nhl vs khl.

2) Hes close with mario and realizes he is the guy that is talking his character up let alone mario paying his salary. Dont think hes going to float around with that in mind.

3) Has a chance to be that impact player if only to get the pp going. With our pk, winning the special teams battle in close games with how we play 5 on 5 is key with no sid and malkin.

4) Nostalgia. He can prove he can be the impact player for this franchise he once was. This is the ideal situation for him.

He was still on the pens when they switched to vegas gold. They introduced the vegas gold jerseys in 2000-01 season and were their full time jerseys by 2002. Kovalev was traded at the 2003 deadline.
