Boyes is a classic "change of scenery" kind of trade. It's not earth-shattering but it certainly shores up our center depth. It also makes Connolly completely expendable as far as our stretch run goes.

I'd love to see Stafford moved tomorrow in a bigger, splashier move.

Overall, I like it, especially if for a 2nd (or a 3rd as I saw somewhere).

Like I said, most comparable to Pominville .

I like it. Fresh face in the top 6. 30+goal skill. Only gave up a 2nd and he comes to town on a hot streak.

Thumbs up on this one.

If he just passes thats fine. We can just put him on LW to set up Stafford

espn twitter says: Reached Sabres GM Darcy Regier via text and he said the goal in the deal was to add more offense. Done!

if you hate Connolly, you probably won't be a big Boyes fan...

Hecht-Boyes-Vanek could be a pretty good line with some solid size. Hecht for puck retrieval, Boyes and Vanek to do the goal work.

I know he's a few years removed from it but its great to have another youngish (28) player who has scored over 40 goals in recent seasons. Tapping into that potential would be fantastic.

Looking there, it looks like he's bounced around with a bunch of different partners.

Most often, it seems to be that he's been paired with Backes.

signed through next year at 4 mill epr

A couple thoughts:

I like that Boyes has some size. But doesnt sound like he uses it
He potted 40 in a year, and 30+. What happened last year and this year? I heard hernia issues?

So he plays center and LW?? So I guess the jury is still out on Connolly... It gives us more options in the top 6, but Id say its safe to say that even if Connolly isnt moved by 3PM, he wont be resigned now that we could possible have Roy and Boyes as our 1A/1B centers both making 4 mill next year (our version of 1A/1B)

I like this a lot. Maybe we try to re-sign him after the season to a contract similar to Tim's?

either way, what a deal. for only a 2nd. I feel like we got a player and gave up nothing for him.
