Probably cause he was last ear's 1st overall pick, no? 2014 is 3 years away, and just like any team Canada like to build a team with a mix of veterans and future stars. I have no doubt that Hall and maybe Eberle depending on his progression are part of the plan.
BTW, all 3 Staal's nominated
I can see MAAYBE jordan making it... but i think marc is a stretch., especialy 3 years from now.
And thank you for being so receptive, too often politeness goes unaccounted for on this board
no need to thank me. i find politeness and receptiveness isnt only a rare social usage here on these boards but in Quebec as a whole. ive travelled and i find quebec to be the one of the most uncourteous, rude and inconsiderate place in comparison to many other places ive been to. anways, again, no need to thank me bud!
Surprised Pietrangelo isn't on that ballad, or a vet like Pronger.
Up front, how can you not have the Stamkos/St.Louis duo? Stamkos leads in points, in his position (centre), while St. Louis leads all right wingers in points as well. If this is based on this year's performance, these two should be there. It's not like they're a liability on the ice defensively, since they combine for a +16 rating on a terrible defensive Tampa Bay team.
But I guess everyone's team will look different. For one, I'd love to see St. Louis dish off one-timers to Stamkos in the Olympics.

In 2014, St. Louis will be 39. Pronger will be 40. Too old for Olympics.

Thats why they're not on the list.
A lot of people wrote off St. Louis this year, since he wasn't young anymore and wouldn't put up points. I think in 3 years, playing with Stamkos, he'll be fine.
Plus, looking at that roster, holy centre batman! 10 out of the 13 forwards play centre, with just two slotted as capable to play wing as well.
As soon as he played an international even as a canadian (ivan hilinka) he became a canadian at any international event, also he was half canadian at birth
he is entitled to a one time switch. AKA the Nabokov rule.
Even being a Boston fan it wouldn't surprise me if Lucic made the 2014 roster. He was originally invited to 2010 camp but was injured. Plus he really is starting to figure out his game with 27 goals and 46 points in 57 games. That said I would expect him to be one of the last cuts and not end up making the roster. Team Canada will be 2 deep 2 take a straight PWF on international ice.

Yups.. I remember St Louis seemed really down not being chosen last year. Anyway I just cant wait to see Price/Subban (hopefully it will come true) to represent, not only canada but also the Habs!

ahhh but you make it sound like st louis is the only man in the WORLD that feed stamkos one timers...its St louis cuz marty is ON the team..
you give stamkos any other player on that team canada list, and watch out, hell they might even be BETTER feeds...
again im not trying to hate on the guy i LOVE marty, but its a laugh to think a 5"7 39 yr old makes team canada with the big bodies that we have available
i also agree that i dont see jordan staal rly making it, and in 3 years, its quite possible subban POLE vaults ahead of letang
Not that skating isn't important in any Olympic, but for 2014 on Int'l ice (where Canada hasn't medalled since forever) it'll be mandatory. No slowpokes. Look what happened with the non-speedy '06 team that carried Pronger, Bertuzzi, Regehr, McCabe, Thornton, Blake, Foote and Smyth. That spells doom for Canada on ice that's bigger and not familiar as well. I don't think you can carry more than 1 or 2 Lucic types. And as for D, stay at home Pronger-esque guys won't do the job. You'll need guys who are mobile, so PK has a shot. Still very far off though.

I can see Marc making it well before Jordan, he's a #1 defencemen right now, I've never been impressed by J. Staal's game at all.
This.
I also have a problem with there being five right handed defensemen out of the seven chosen. We'll need some speedy ones for the international ice so Subban and Letang will be shoe-in's with probably Weber and either Staal/Myers to be the anchor as basic guarantees.

No Thornton or Heatley Thank God because I hate both of them.
Haven't read the thread on the main board but not surprised to hear the hate for Subban. He's a Hab so that's enough. The NHL board has become pathetic for its Habs hating.
I'd be shocked if Lucic wasn't on the team. He still has 3 years to upgrade his skating and should be a pretty consistent 35 goal, 65 pt. guy for Boston. The thing with Lucic will be injuries. His style of play will eventually take its toll on his body. He's been healthy this year though.
I also don't know why Bergeron is there. Other players will supercede him by 2014 and we don't need more centres anyway. Players like Chris Stewart, Claude Giroux, and probably Jeff Skinner and Logan Couture will likely be ready for strong consideration too.

Bergeron was HORRIBLE in Vancouver. Imagine having Stamkos there instead of him. He was there to win faceoffs and be a defensive specialist, and every time he was out there his line was hemmed in the defensive zone. The guy was brutal. That whole playing with Crosby thing didn't work out either.
