... He wasn't good early in the season. He won games because the Kings were scoring lots of goals.

He was pretty good in December and good in January. That's about it.

I'm not one of the people who touts Quick's number of wins last year. Howard doesn't have the consistency that Quick has shown in the NHL. I'm not saying Howard isn't a decent goalie, I'm just saying I believe that Quick is better. Howard is also almost two years older than Quick. Quick just turned 25, Howard will be 27 in March.

Who's the chubby guy with glasses Hodge is babysitting? Everytime he starts talking they decide to announce a move. Coincidence?

His numbers don't lie this year, though. Had some bad games during that horrendous home stand but really good besides that. His main issue is his damn hockey sense toward when to handle the puck and HOW to handle the puck!

Wow, I can't believe McBackup got picked up by Ottawa. I'm guessing they want Lehner <sp> playing in the minors instead of watching Anderson play in the NHL.

You could also make a case the Quick plays against some of the better offensive teams/players within his division. Red Wings play 6 times each against Nashville, St Louis and Columbus.

Seems like an excellent deal for Detroit. Howard is in his prime and they have followed a very simple theory with goalies for over a decade. If they don't have a guy like Howard to be the #1 they'll just go out and vulture an older goalie who still has upside and they'll continue to win.

Hasn't the Trade dead line been boring the last four years League wide?

Really the only excitement last year was Kovi.

... How so? How does a .900 save percentage over the first two months = good? I'm all ears.

... This season, Quick's been a lot better for sure. And as long as the Kings are willing to have Quick as the #1, they are just going to have to live with the fact that they will always give up the occasional goal due to terrible puckhandling. I don't see Quick getting better at that overnight.

You never can really tell with goalies.

Quick has a great D in front of him, as does Howard. Crawford is going to win the Calder because he plays for the Blackhawks. He wouldn't win it if he were on a different team.

Then you have a guy like Vokoun who puts up VERY good numbers playing on average to bad teams his whole career.

Vokoun is probably one of the top 3 goalies in the league, but gets zero recognition for it because of the teams he has played for in his career. If Vokoun lands on a contender today....look out. He is by far the most underrated goalie in the league.

basically i just don't think his numbers bared out how good he was. i don't think the goals he gave up were terribly weak, but i think the defense was pretty shaky for a considerable amount of time, and i think it had a very adverse effect on his numbers. he made a lot of spectacular saves, which obviously could cloud my judgment a bit. i'm going off of memory at this point, i just remember feeling this way at the time.

Duthie is like the Canadian version of Ryan Seacrest. That super smug attitude and he thinks everything he says is funny. The problem is nothing he says is funny and it's painfully obvious what he's trying to do. I never minded him before the All Star Draft where he went with the same joke 17 times and still thought he was being funny.
