Woot.

Eh, Mitchell can fill in for injuries instead of having to call up Newbury/Weiss. He scored 29 and 23 points in the NHL in season's past. He's only 25. Made 725k this year and is an RFA at season's end. No big deal.

Boring deadline though. Good we didn't trade for Richards; apparently most GMs feel just like I do - he'll be available July 1st. Good luck Dallas; if you don't get management figured out soon, you get to watch Richards walk for free.

Its a deal to help Hartford, who desperately need some sort of depth.

Just because a move is not a blockbuster does not mean its stupid.

Jesus people.

He's hardly a capable AHL player too, but thanks for the invalid point

Whalebait, indeed. Nothing wrong with this move, just a 2012 7th.

He is better than half the team down in the AHL and when he is on, he is actually a pretty good NHL player.

I said it before today, the 'Pack needed help. Mitchell gives them a big body to help. White is out. Kolarik is out. MZA was called up permanently. McDonagh was called up permanently. Newbury has been up and down. Kennedy was traded.

Hard to win with that.

I highly doubt he puts on a rangers uniform, he couldn't cut it with the leafs... I'd much rather see newbury, grachev, didimonte than some nobody.

A year ago, Burke said he was too valuable to trade. Not this year. No harm, no foul.

Of course, you never know, that 7th round draft pick could turn out to be David Skokan.

Remember folks we moved Tim Kennedy in the McCabe deal and nobody thought he had any value. Glen knows what he's doing.

You have no idea what the hell you are talking about. Not sure I can put it any nicer. As a depth player for Hartford he is perfectly capable. There is nothing other than your opinion that points to the contrary.

This deal is pretty much identical to the Mark Bell move of two years ago.

^^^^Thats not the point! The Whale needed help. They have injuries and the Rangers injuries mean that they have lost players to the Rangers. They have been pulling up players from the ECHL at an alarming rate. They have been signing random players to professional try-outs at the same rate

Not intended towards McRanger. Can't quote.

Great, so Slats just wasted #3 and #7. Just the opposite of what he was supposed to do: stockpile picks and prospects.

I guess Slat was too concerned about the 4th line depth!

They already have 2 2nd's. Getting back a #7 would be as easy as trading Gilroy for a 5th + 7th or Christensen for a 6th.

You're seriously complaining over those 2 deals? Really?

Don't be so quick to dismiss Mitchell. He's supposed to be great at faceoffs.

At what point do you begin trying to build a team?

We're past stockpiling picks and prospects.

It's time to make the moves to become a contender.

teams like Edmonton and the Islanders stockpile picks and prospects.

Actually, you SHOULD be so quick to dismiss him, IF you're looking for him to play in the NHL (which I'm sure isn't the case here). You can expect 3-5 good shifts out of him every couple of months. Nothing much to see here, trust me.

Only here will people ever ***** about trading a 7th round pick. Mitchell is better than 99.999999999% of 7th rounders ever selected.

He brings depth to the AHL team that is in dire need.

Trust me, come draft time. If there's a 7th round pick that our scouts say we need to get him. Sather can easily make a trade and acquire another pick to get that player.

We finally got us a 4th line center that can be useful role player -- kills penalties, wins faceoffs, can score, hits, don't know much else about him. What are Leafs fans saying about him?
