Flyers receive Tom Sestito from Columbus for Michael Chaput and Greg Moore

Mod Edit:

Tom Sestito has been sent to the Phantoms (AHL).

http://phillysportsdaily.com/flyers/...-blue-jackets/

Quote:
VOORHEES, N.J. – A Flyers official confirmed just after 3 p.m. that the team didn’t make any trades before the deadline. Then word trickled in that they made a small move that won’t affect the NHL roster … at least right away.

The Flyers got left winger Tom Sestito from the Columbus Blue Jackets for forwards Michael Chaput and Greg Moore. Sestito will be assigned to the Adirondack Phantoms.

Sestito is a 6-foot-5, 228-pound tough guy who can also put up some points. He has 11 goals and 21 assists in 46 games with Springfield of the American Hockey League.

“He’s a big kid that we’ve always liked,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “And we think he’s got a chance to play at some point for us – whether it be later this year, or certainly next year he’ll get a good look.”

He played in nine games for Columbus this season, recording two goals and two assists in a cup of coffee at the NHL level. The winger seems to be in that traditional tough Flyer mold. Oh, he has 192 penalty minutes this year.

“Rumor has it Philly likes seeing an ass kicking!” he wrote on his official Twitter account. “Hope to see you soon and will give you what you want!”
His page on the Blue Jackets' site:

http://bluejackets.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8473542

Quote:
• Was recalled from Springfield (AHL) on Dec. 10; has points in three-straight games, including an assist last night at Chicago.
• Scored the first goal of his NHL career Dec. 15 at Vancouver; began the streak with his first NHL assist Dec. 21 vs. Calgary.
• Added to streak with second career goal Dec. 23 vs. Vancouver; has notched 2-1-3 during the streak.
  • Height: 6' 5"
  • Weight: 228
  • Shoots: Left
  • Born: Sep 28, 1987 (Age 23)
  • Birthplace: Rome, NY, United States
  • Drafted: CBJ / 2006 NHL Entry Draft
  • Round: 3rd (85th overall)

From November 2010:

http://www.masslive.com/sports/index...m_sestito.html

Quote:
Tom Sestito, 23, stands 6-4 and weighs 228 pounds. “Big brother” Tim, 26, stands 5-11 and weighs 195.

“Tim will try to tell you he’s a 6-footer, but he’s stretching it,” Tom says with a grin.

Tom isn’t stretching it when he says that he’s 6-4. The organizational roster of Springfield’s new NHL parent club, the Columbus Blue Jackets, lists him at 6-5.

Some hockey players can score, and some can fight. With Tom Sestito, the Falcons get it all in one package. He’s a prototype power forward, dangerous on the attack and just as dangerous when the gloves and helmets start to fly.

You guys will like Sestito - he's a rough and tumble kind of player.

Isn't Chaput the guy we drafted out of the QMJHL. I don't know anything about Sestito but I don't like giving up on Chaput this early

Sestito is a good pick up. 4 points i 9 games this year and hes only 23. Has some size at 6-5 230. Hopefully he gets a few games for the Flyers.

Michael Chaput, C, Lewiston (QMJHL)

Third Round, 89th overall

Height/Weight: 6-2/194

Born: 4/9/1992

Notes: Chaput, who shoots left, had 28 goals and 27 assists (55 points) in 68 games for Lewiston last season. The previous season, he played in 29 games and recorded three goals and seven assists. He compares himself to the Canucks' Alex Burrows and believes he'll be a third-line energy player at the NHL level.
Quote:
LOS ANGELES – Michael Chaput grew up in Ile Bizard, Quebec, as a Canadiens fan and figured he’d go somewhere in the third or early fourth round at the NHL draft on Saturday.

What the 6-foot-2, 194-pound center didn’t foresee, however, was the Flyers picking him in the third round at No. 89 – their first pick of the two-day event.

The Flyers had six picks on the final day after making one minor deal. They stocked up with three wingers and two defensemen – spots they needed more depth – and one center.

“You never know what happens in a draft,” said the 18-year-old, who played the last two seasons for Lewiston in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. “I’m very excited. I didn’t talk to the Flyers before the draft or anything. It was quite a surprise.”

Montreal, which plays less than a half-hour from his house, talked to him, as did Toronto.

His upside is a BIG third liner who can play physical. Downside is a fourth line plugger.

He's from Giroux's draft year.

Primeau-sized winger, must have a nasty streak if his PIMs are any indication. I like it.

He actually doesn't suck. He's not bad, and he can jump into an NHL role in case of injuries immediately if the need arises.

Devils own his brother Tim Sestito by the way.

I like Sestito. He's a 4th liner but he's got a lot of energy and some nasty grit to him.

Well, I kinda liked Chaput. He was our best faceoff prospect during prospect camp last summer...as an 18 yr old.

Eh, Im iffy on Sestito. Big heavyweight forward? Of course Homer goes for it.

I think this means Homer is seriously going after Da-Costa.

Look Da-Costa, even if you suck, you will still be our best offensive prospect.

Edit: on a side note, Legin just scored 50 goals in the AHL for me on NHL 11 lol, next to Fat pat who put up 88 points

Both Chaput brothers traded today, then? I was a little bit intrigued by him, and even though I doubt he'll amount to more than Sestito already is... couldn't we have picked up someone similar to Sestito in the summer without giving away a prospect?

What a waste. Sestito couldn't even crack the roster in Columbus and everyone here has him pegged in as a replacement for Carcillo or Shelley. The only thing Sestito is is a replacement for Klotz with the Phantoms. Holmgren gave up a top prospect with the potential of becoming a very good checking line center for someone who is a hack. Great move Homer.........
