Thought this deserved a thread for discussion, Lapierre is a pretty solid 4th line center.

I like it, he reminds me of a yesteryear Burrows.

Lapierre played for AV before, he wouldn't be here unless AV thought he could coach him.

Man, everyone on TV is ripping the Canucks apart for trading for Lapierre.

Mike Gillis isn't a kneejerk type GM. He's not stupid, he's not unaware of Lapierre's downside/reputation but obviously he feels like he has the leadership group to set him straight. Its now on Lapierre to realize this is his third team in a short period of time so if he doesn't get with the program, he's not going to have a NHL career.

Basically if you're Mike Gillis, you'd rather have a Reasoner but that obviously wasn't possible so you're semi-comfortable with Hodgson in the role. If you're willing to go with Hodgson, there's no risk involved with Lapierre. If he doesn't work in that role, you turf him and go with Hodgson.

Lapierre was AV's chosen 'Crosby shut-down' guy when he coached him in the Q. He's also speedy as heck, and totally balls-to-the-wall on the forecheck. I'll take it.

People who wanted Konopka; well we just got a superior player, though he's not an enforcer.

In 38GP with MTL, 5G 3A, -7, 104 hits, 58% in the FO.

In 21 GP with Anahiem, 0G 3A, -3, but 59 hits and 53.4% in the Faceoff circle.

RH shot is a bonus too.

Now have 4 centres who are 6'1 and over 50% in the FO circle. (2 RH, 2 LH).

I'm intrigued by the Higgins pickup, let's hope he gets hot.

The visored french-men duo.

Burrows + Lapierre = Mega Pests.

Like the player, but feel there is an overpayment here. Two months ago, Lappy was traded for Festerling and a 5th. Festerling gets traded for MacIntyre. Ducks make out with good value. But i guess this was what was needed to get him.

Loved him last year in the playoffs. He really steps up his game.

You only need to watch this video to know how much Ferraro hates him.

It's perfectly reasonable to hate Max Lapierre. You probably should hate him based on his actions on the ice.

That doesn't mean he can't become an effective player for us.

I love this trade. We've been missing the "agitation" element since Burrows moved to the top line and Kesler became such an important player for us. As long as AV can control him (which he's had difficulty in the past with discipline issues amongst players) from undisciplined outbursts this will be a very shrewd move. 100% approve of this trade.

Joel Perrault was a useless asset, 3rd round pick isn't too steep a price at the moment, we needed the NHL experience now, not in 5 years.

I honestly feel that the leadership group in the locker room, especially H. Sedin, is strong enough to keep Lappy in check. There is a culture that has been built that will pretty much force players to behave in a particular manner or risk being dropped. I love his enthusiasm, size and speed.

He will be our dave bolland in the playoffs. Pissing off everyone.

I'm not concerned about lapierre. If he takes dumb penalties and is a side show..he won't play.

He's gonna draw attention from the top 2 lines to him.. ALA dave bolland.

Sharp is a useless asset, basically a wash with Perrault. If we wanted Lappy earlier, we could have had him at a cheaper price. That's all i'm saying.

Ferraro hates him apparently because he was talking trash to Ferraro in between the benches during a game. he stated it on TSN.

Excellent trade IMO, I can't see why everyone seems to hate this so much. He's no Reasoner, but he came at a fraction of the cost most likely. I'd also much rather have Lapierre than Rob Niedermayer for example.

As long as he doesn't take terrible penalties, this is a great pickup. Exactly the type of player you want on your fourth line. Can chip in every once in a while, and make a borderline hit or two. With Kesler and Burrows "maturing", the team needed this pest type presence, because despite what Gillis preached about not letting opponents get under their skin, and feasting on the powerplays rather than retaliating, having that annoying player try and get stars off their games is important. Look what a guy like Dave Bolland manages to do to the Sedins at times. Not saying Lapierre is anywhere near the player Bolland is, but he could possibly play a similar role, IMHO.

I'm in the minority, but I really like this move.

Edit:

Hell to the yes.

Lapierre will likely be 4th line center... great face-off #'s this season.
