Yes, it does stink because of his character and locker room presence. I wonder if he'll actually report to MIL. My guess is he'll have a career in broadcasting if he wants it. I hope there was a legitimate reason to send him to Milwaukee, though I have yet to hear one.

Poile addressed it today. He said that the team had simply reached the conclusion that he wasn't going to be used again this season, therefore they exposed him to waivers and sent him to the AHL so that he could either be claimed or get to play. He said it was a very difficult decision that "sucked" to make.
But it is what it is. Belak has a guaranteed one-way contract. If he doesn't retire and reports, he still gets his NHL money for the remainder of the season and might actually get to play a little...although an established heavyweight enforcer going down to the minors is going to be asked to "make" a lot of youngsters trying to make a name for themselves...
I guess I'm asking if they could have let him stay in Nashville in the pressbox for the remainder of the season. He has to be paid whether he's in the pressbox as a scratch or in MIL. Is he taking a roster spot if he's just scratched with the Preds? I keep hearing that the roster limits are expanded after the deadline. Were they hoping another team would claim him and take his salary of our hands?
Maybe he would rather play in Milwaukee than sit with the Preds. I doubt it, but you never know.

If he stays on the roster, doesn't he count toward the cap? If he's in Milwaukee, he doesn't. Belak gets the same amount but it keeps us from hitting a number that would cost revenue sharing, doesn't it?

I am not sure but if he is being sent down that has to be the reason.
but since we didnt add anyone at the deadline I wonder if he could stay up now.
I can't see any reason why he would choose not to report, though
well, if riding the bus and playing in the minors isnt worth collecting the last 100K of salary due him, he might not.
I guess it all depends on whether he is planning on retiring after this year or not. if he intends to keep playing hockey for a living, then he shows up and goes to work. If he's got something else lined up he may just go ahead and retire.
going on 35 I think, good time to retire. I'd like to see him stick around as a radio personality, he's more entertaining on the air than on the ice IMO.
Interesting. I wonder if he is still technically under contract with us? Does he count against our "midpoint" cap?
yes. his contract id guarenteed. had heard this was the plan with him as the brass didn't want to string him along and saw the value in him as an ambassador of hockey once he made his intentions known of styaing here (ala grimson)

hopefully he doesn't turn to making horrible commercials the way Grimson did.

Yeah, this is probably right. But his contract is only guaranteed if he follows reassignments and such. Technically, the Preds could void his contract for not reporting. But since it was prearranged, I guess they wouldn't do that to him.

i don't think they could void it. But they could suspend him like Radu

I imagine his audition was helping with the team's broadcast once or twice in February.
I imagine he was told we're putting you on waivers and if nobody takes you we are going to put you to work in your new role and not make you report to Milwaukee.
Could be wrong. I don't see him doing the Wade Belak Show tonight if I am.
