Kings vs. Red Wings - 02/28/11 - POSTGAME THOUGHTS & TIDBITS

It was a good effort at least, a lot of bad bounces and a couple of guys having bad days... Losing in regulation was bound to happen sooner or later... It has been a long time since we had one of hese games, but every team has them, hopefully it stops here and we get back in sync for the Yotes on Thursday. Onto the next game where we welcome to the Kings Dustin Penner! GO KINGS!

Hopefully we don't go on another losing streak like we have a couple times this season.

The west is way too tight so we need a bounce back game on Thurs.

Still haven't lost more by 3 goals all season.

The record lives on.

Whatever, this game was a game in limbo. Penner will be our 1st line winger on Thursday. We won't see this line-up again. Let's just put this behind us and win against the Coyotes.

I like the way it ended, they didn't give up; they scored goals. Hopefully, they continue to work hard and bounce back Thursday.

Kopitar should be getting an assist on that last goal. I'm not sure why he wasn't immediately credited. He passed the puck to Greene who had his shot deflected by Richardson for the goal.

Yup, can't afford losing to a division team, while being at home. Have to put our road hats on and play like we did during that trip. Thursday's game will say a lot about the character of this group, win and we're looking good. Lose and it looks like another losing streak is on our hands

That game upgraded itself from "totally embarrassing" to "disappointing", which is pretty damn impressive all things considered.

Quick has to get pulled after the first 20. Aside from that... it was just an off night.

At least the Wings were above the Kings in the standings. The loss isn't a 4 point loss.

Big game Thursday.

Got to win Thursday, another losing streak would ensure we miss playoffs.

Nice little goal there.
He was, the Detroit player faked a shot, and Bernier aligned with the shooter in butterfly, but was off the post. It still isn't his job to cover the guy 180 degrees away, that and the whole team quit on him, and he came into the game with no hope of winning. They could have scored 7 more goals and Bernier would have nothing to do with the loss.

I don't like how the team just coasted after that goal by Handzus.

Quick was slower tonight, he was way off. Can't be playing like that down the stretch and in important conference games.

Anyway we got a major game coming up, Phoenix and then Dallas. Huge games, we cannot play like tonight ever again. I'll take a loss as long as the Kings show up. Tonight was embarrassing as Bob Miller mentioned in the broadcast.

With that last period flurry... what a difference in the stats. Only 5 players were even with 10 minutes left. By the end of the game, Martinez wound up +1, 10 players wound up even. Williams and Scuderi were -2, Johnson -3.

Richardson had a heck of a game.

Kind of reminded of the Avs game, except we were on the other side of the coin (and weren't outright dominated all game in terms of effort prior to the comeback).

Weird game, not much you can do, move on. Still a good day for the Kings, what with Penner and Willy.

No excuses because every team is in the same boat, but...

I imagine the young guys who haven't experienced trades were extra nervous today.
Rise in expectations and pressure because Penner coming.
Usually hot goaltender with an off night
*I agree they need to pull him earlier, when Quick is off, he's often way off. No use keeping him in. That's what we have Bernier for.

I'll agree with Foxy. Just one of those games.

Let's just think of this as the last time we'll be seeing that team. The team on Thursday will have a totally different offensive dynamic. It will allow us to actually play players in the lines they should be playing on. We won't have to actually put a 4th liner on the 1st line or a rookie on the 2nd line.

No but the goal happened at the end of the game and needed a place to discuss it.

Also, Special Teams is starting to kill us. Prevented us from mopping the floor with the Avs, and played a pretty decisive role here again tonight.

The measure of a good team is the way they respond to games like these. Detroit outplayed us last time out and lost, it only makes sense that this game ended up this way. We were dominant down low and in forcing turnovers through the end of the first but the team really fell apart mentally. They got frustrated.

I'm more concerned with how they play Thursday than tonight's game, I'm already over it.

I thought there was an interference against Kopi on wings first goal, then three penalties that were nowhere near a penalty. Wings getting of with holdings and interfences more than once.

This ref was a Red Wing Fan.

First goal is Quick and all possible bounces were against him today, twice it went off the post hit him and in.

Phoenix won't be easy.

Just one of those nights. The Wings totally outplayed us last time and we won 5-0. We outplayed them for 2/3 of the game tonight and they led 4-1. Sometimes it just goes that way. Bounce back on Thursday.
