Petiot

Per Rishaug:

Peckham didn't practice today.

I missed the follow up to last nights game, did anyone hear if Peckham is alright?

I don't know the extent of injury.

But I know it happened during the Horton-Peckham fight. Pecks got popped real good.

Woulda preferred Plante finally getting a call-up but nice to see Petiot too.

Petiot looked solid in the pre-season games I watched so I was hoping he'd get a look this season somewhere along the way. I'd guess we see Plante up for a game or 2 as well before the season is over.

From here until the end of the year wins and losses don't really matter as it's basically all about seeing what the prospects have at this level as there really isn't any doubt that the Oilers will have a bottom 2 pick come draft day in June.

The way Plante has been playing the last few games, you'll be glad that it's Petiot that got the call. Too many stupid giveaways and has had a lot of trouble keeping the puck in the attacking zone.

His numbers this year are better than Petiot's though, so who knows.

So, I take it that recalling Petiot uses up 1 of the 4 callups allowed by the Oilers between now and the end of the season, now that we're officially past the trade deadline?

This.

If he can't make this Oilers team... With the D we have now... Guh, the trade for Teubert was very necessary.

Plante's only 21. Peckham is 23. Writing Plante off already is jumping the gun.

Not writing Plante off yet, but it's very bothersome watching everyone else get a sniff, besides him. Makes me wonder.

I think Petiot will open a couple eyes for people that haven't watched him. He was one of the most effective and consistent D-men in preseason. He's a pretty smooth skating puck mover. Hopefully he brings that added physicality that Renney asked him to work on. Plante and Teubert need to learn off of each other of what not to do.

Keep in mind the Barons are in a playoff race. I think the Barons playing a couple rounds of playoff hockey is more beneficial than ten NHL games... calling up the best player could make a bunch of guys lose out on development as well.

Plante will get his shot eventually. I like the move, it is classy that the organization is giving Petiot his last gasp at an NHL career.

To be honest, Petiot being called up hurts the Barons more. With Teubert and Montgomery coming in, I expect Plante and Motin to be the defensive scratches this weekend, barring Anthony Aiello staying on his PTO.

Eh, I honestly have no idea the situation down in OKC. I'm just saying, this game called hockey has its politics.

Well maybe the Oil got Plante 2.0 in Teubert

they are virtually the same player in my mind... i'm NOT a fan of either... teubert has *slightly* more pedigree, but thats about it... i cannot fathom how either player will ever be a difference maker in the NHL... upside for both is a serviceable bottom-pairing defender

Oh yeah, I know. NHL contract outweighs PTO 9 times out of 10, regardless of the skill of the player. That's why I asterisked it with Aiello staying

Yeah true. I haven't really been keeping my eye on what's going on down there at all. My focus has been mainly on Marincin, Pitlick etc.

What kind of numbers? They are defensive d-men so numbers don't really do them much justice.

Good for Petiot. I suspect this is him getting a chance to earn himself a deal for next year. Not sure the team re-signs him if he doesn't have the potential to be a decent callup from time to time.

Seems like Plante is the last D in the AHL that would be called up.
But I know, I am not allowed to say something negative about our high draft pick.
