There's no way we're getting Parise or Richards, where's our draft pick from 2011? Where's Rundblad?

Agreed, we are def. not getting Parise. Richards wouldn't want to sign here. We won't be doing much winning for a few years.

Also, Smith and Butler are both on the team next year.

Did you read the whole thing? Where I said it was a dream?

Where is Rundblad? Right now, Sweden. Next year Bingo.

We have a log jam on Defense. Cowen is the closest to being NHL ready. We have Gonchar, Kuba and Karlsson for puck movers. We need another shut down for the PK. Rundblad is a bigger EK.

They're supposed to be possible lineups, lol...oh well if we could get that lineup that would be amazing

Landeskog - Spezza - (UFA)
Michalek - (UFA/Draft) - Alfredsson
Foligno - Regin - Butler
Smith - Winchester - Neil

Phillips - Karlsson
Cowen - Gonchar
Kuba - Rundblad

Anderson

Vrbata, Upshall, Hejduk are potential right wingers. Perron, Tanguay, Jokinen are possible LWingers and then move Michalek up to the first line with Spezza and Lando.

Centres could be got through the draft moving up (Strome, Huberdeau) or picked like Zibanejad or Catennaci. Very possible we could target someone like Hodgson or, with luck, Couture. But those are longshots with our assets. I think...

Landeskog - Spezza - Michalek
Perron - Laich - Alfredsson
Foligno - Regin - Butler
Smith - Winchester - Neil

Looks solid, and possible.

I'm not hoping for much I just hope its realistic. I want one UFA signing, Jussi Jokinen (someone who can be a 2nd line center and actually score on a shootout attempt). Lineup would look like this:

Landeskog - Spezza - Butler
Michalek - Jokinen - Alfredsson
Foligno - Regin - Condra
Smith - Winchester - Neil

Phillips - Karlsson
Cowen - Gonchar
Carkner - Rundblad
Lee

Anderson
Brust

This gives us about 10 million in cap space and we probably end up around 13th (think Oilers this year, inconsistent games but you can see the development of the young players). Two seasons from now (2012-2013) we sign one big free agent, give Lehner and Anderson split time, use our 2012 high draft pick to draft a forward and hopefully make one last run in the playoffs (Alfredsson's last).

I am surprised not many seem to be placing Greening in their lineups. This guy is an NHL'er. He has the size and speed, and his defensive positioning is off the charts. He reads the play well. Not much of a finisher, however this team will need defensive minded players to keep us in games next year. Every game I have been more and more impressed. Tonight he saved a goal on his back check and I was there so I was watching him the whole time during that play, and he just shadowed his man. He was on the ice for the goal against tonight, not his fault at all yet he was pissed. If he takes pride in his defense then I say he is ready to at least be on our 3rd - 4th line from now on.

Phillips - Lee
Gonchar - Rundblad
Cowen - Karlsson
Carkner

Lee and Phillips need to stick together. They look comfortable together, and they always have whenever they'be been paired together. Of course, this is all dependent on getting rid of Kuba this summer (or, my preference, Gonchar).

That would be ideal with what we have. We can hope that murray will be trying to unload kuba at the draft or that he will be bought out at some point. Even if he turns his game around, the team needs the open spot and at his best he wouldn't be much better (if at all) than a Cowen or Rundblad. Although at his best he could push Lee back out.

That's pretty close to mine, except I prefer we look at Laich as 2nd centre. What I hope we do not do is sign UFAs or make trades for inconsistent bodies. I want to watch the kids develop. Your line-up shows that well. Parise, Richards, Upshall, etc - not going to happen/don't want to happen.

I would keep Greening up as the 13th forward (and let Shannon leave). Potulney is 1st call-up. And we are assuming Landeskog/Couturier/Larsson can step right in.

I'd also try hard to dump Kuba or Gonchar - as long as we do not have to include any of the kids. Lehner gets a full year of AHL.

I pretty much agree with this, I however only really see one of Condra or Greening making it. 4th line winger spot goes to an UFA like Rupp on a 1 year deal. 5 rookies is enough, imo.

yeah, see none of the lineups with lando look as good as with RNH(orig. post) imo.
EDIT: well..., actually..., hmmm.

tough decision. guess it also depends on who we're taking with the next few picks.

We technically, if Condra plays in all the remaining games he won't be a rookie next year.

Agreed! Someone with common sense, I like that.

Just switch Foligno with Condra and we're set!

Seems ok. Very little depth once injuries hit which they do in spades, especially the older guys and those with recurring issues (Spezza, Michalek, Alfie). Still a lot of ??, can Butler knock in 25 over a full season, will Alfie be able to play 60 games, will the 1st this year crack the lineup.

Reminds me of the Laffs prior to the season this year where they had Kadri pencilled in the top 6 and Bozak continuing his solid rookie campaign only to have neither work out. Lack of depth really scares me for the top 6...seriously

I think Bryan Murray is going after a proven top 6 forward in the offseason. He's indicated this in interviews, also as we all know our 2011 draft pick will likely start. I also think Regin's time here is limited given the arrival of Greening/Butler to the lineup. Regin simply isn't the player he was last year. So in that case here is what I hope:

UFA-Spezza-Butler
Michalek-2011 Pick-Alfredsson
Condra-Greening-Foligno
Winchester-Smith-Neil
Regin

Karlsson-Phillips
Rundblad-Gonchar
Cowen-Carkner
Lee

Anderson
Lehner

Note:
1) I'm assuming we are drafting a Center at the draft, but if we go for Lando than switch the lines
2) UFA could be: Leino, Glencross, Cole, etc..
3) Regin is traded or is the 13th forward
4) I also wouldn't be surprised to see Murray get a veteran 3rd line LW instead of Condra. Although I think Condra looks solid so far.
5) Replace Cowen with Kuba if Sens Management don't buy him out or can't move him in the offseason

People got to stop pairing Karlsson with Philips, it is simply not working for both of them.

Right now Philips is playing his best hockey of the season with Lee. So that would be the top pairing.

and the rest is up for grabs, depends on what will happen with Kuba and Gonchar, and which rookie is ready to step up (Cowen, Rundblad) or could they both play?
And what happens to Carkner, this team needs some sandpaper, does Cowen replace him in that role plus the addition of Greening and maybe Landeskog kind of lessen Carkner's role a bit?
It all depends who's going to be the coach.

Listening to murray's Coments after the trade deadline, if Ottawa makes a trade or picks up a UFA I think it will be someone to play with Spezza and that is a big if.

I would strongly object to a Karlsson-Cowen pairing. Dear Lord, talk about sending Cowen up shi*s creek with no paddle.

I think BM is going for a top six regardless. We tried so many options this year on our top line to play with Spezza and it simply didn't work. I think BM will pay (we have the cap space) for a proven scorer that can play with Spezza on the LW. Plus if we don't get Lando, are RNH or Couturier ready for the NHL?

I can honestly see something like Wiercioch and a 2nd to Minnesota for Havlat, at the draft.

I don't think RNH will be in the NHL next year but Couturier is definitely ready.
