ZHERDEV was the best Flyer player on Saturday against the sens. Let him try again and sit Carbomb.

I still think that Laviolette is going to utilize Nodl with Richards and Versteeg and put Carcillo on the 4th line with Betts and Powe. Right now Zherdev is going to get some starts but I just cannot see Laviolette having that faith in him. Maybe if they get down in a series he can use him as a spark, but otherwise Laviolette goes with the safe pick.

Yeah that's my guess, however if he gets a few starts and plays lights out, then I say stick with him until he starts to be a puss again.

Well that's why next game will be interesting if Versteeg, JVR and Zherdev all play, and Carcillo doesn't(He is "Ill")

Close, but I think what you will see come the playoffs is going to be pretty much what we have seen over the last couple weeks.

HBL
JvR-Giroux-Carter
Nodl-Richards-Versteeg
Carcillo-Betts-Powe

You may see JvR and Hartnell switch, but this is what you will most likely see IMO.

Tweaked, but it makes sense if JvR is out at this time with any type of possible injury to lay him low.

His work ethic is what it is, he can come out and try to prove he can do all the right things, but I think deep in Laviolette's mind he knows that Zherdev will still play by his instinct, and his instinct can be counterintuitive to what Laviolette wants. He will forego the offensive flare for the security of knowing that he has guys who will follow his instructions and not stray from his gameplan.

Yeah I am fine with those lines, but I am also fine with Zherdev playing a few games during the next few weeks and seeing where he is at.

No one knows. He got a hard hit from Boynton in practice but Holmgren said that wasn't the cause of his injury

I agree that he likely isn't going to change. But if say Carcillo is out for the next two weeks or something and Z fills in and lights it up and plays well defensively, there's no reason to bench him when Carcillo gets healthy. If he plays like a dick that is another story. I doubt he really changes his playing style but you never know.

If Zherdev can keep himself together and actually put forth effort through playoffs, it can be a magical thing.

One can only hope that he is staring down the end of his big-money career, and is realizing what needs to be done.

edit: good point about playing to his instincts.

No one is going to hire him in the NHL next year, why deal with the headaches? Him passing through waivers and coming out the other end unclaimed tells a lot when some teams certainly could have used a scorer like Zherdev.

Yeah, that's why I said it can be a magical thing.

Will it be? Who knows. From everything he has shown through his career, it's not likely.

zherdev is clearly not a team player, he strips the puck from his own teammates in practice

http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=100481

around 1:32 mark
