Good to hear Halischuk is doing well. Hope he continues to make the most of his chance.

I was wondering what happened to Nick. Thanks for letting me know. How'd Spaling do after coming back?

I'm guessing Nick is still playing with Smithson and Ward, but can anyone tell me who Halischuk is playing with? Thanks guys.

Guys, you all talk about consistency, but let's face it: We are a younger team that is inconsistent. That's why Trotz (and other coaches) always favor the vets to the rookies. Why? Because have been there and done that. They know what it takes to be consistent.

Who has been inconsistent:

Franson -- 23
Hornqvist -- 24
Kostitsyn -- 23
Wilson -- 21

Then you look at role playing guys like:

Geoffrion -- 23
Blum -- 22
Halischuk -- 22
Spaling -- 22

And then our "older vets" are:

Suter -- 26
Weber -- 25
O'Brien -- 27
Klein -- 26

I'm not blaming our consistencies just on age alone. I also blame it as hockey being a SPORT. There are times where the best team in baseball will go 4-10 in a week. It happens. You will have your ups and downs. Let's just hope they pull it together and start stringing some wins together to balance this all out.

Have we ever actually been a "scoring team"? Would a pure goal scorer actually help us with "Trotz's system"? I mean I thought we've always squeaked into the playoffs by using this laid-back defensive style that wears out the opposition and waits for them to make the mistakes first. It seems like since the Fisher trade and the more recent call ups that Trotz has been changing our style of play, I see more failed offensive pushes losing the puck and weakening our defensive play than earlier in the season. If we push an offense that isn't even capable of scoring or holding on to the puck to the point that our defense is worn thin, we're just giving the freaking game away.

2006. We were in the top 5 for scoring. But look at our lineup.

Sullivan - Arnott - Dumont
Kariya - Legwand - Erat
Hartnell - Forsberg - Radulov
Nichol - Fiddler - Tootoo/Smithson/Upshall

Timonen - Hamhuis
Weber - Suter
Zidlicky - Zanon

Kariya (76)
Dumont (66)
Legwand (63)
Sullivan (60)
Erat (57)
Timonen (55)
Arnott (54)
Weber (40)
Hartnell (39)
Radulov (37)
Zidlicky (30)
Fiddler (26)
Suter (24)
Forsberg (15 in 17 games)

the 2006 numbers cited above point out the problem.

Its not the "system"

trotzs system, while defensively responsible, also relies on a mean forecheck, and we actually do that quite well and as a result generates offensive zone ice time.

This team gets chances. They just have a bunch of guys who for whatever reason cant put the puck in the net.

in 2006 we had Kariya, a healthy, younger Sully, Arnott, a healthy, unconcussed Dumont, and Radulov.

Say what you will but all of those guys could actually put a puck in the net when given a shot.

The bunch of stonehanded turds we have now all skate well, forecheck well, play defense well, but couldnt score consistently against Brian Finley, much less NHL caliber goalies.

WHile I see your point, the consistency thing has been an issue long before the youth movement started around here. This goes back to guys like Erat and Legwand. Good players but inconsistent. We want them to be top players but they are suited to supporting roles. If you're relying on 2nd line players to be your top players, we're gonna have issues. That's why I suggested trying to move Legwand or Erat or both to get a different focus on the team. I like both players but as the "core" guys around here, we are inconsistent and never get past the first round. The only thing that are constants are them and Trotz. I'd suggest moving one, both or all three.

Did you see where Josh Cooper says that the Predators are now younger than the Oilers?

Never would have guessed that.

And why don't we get PredsChick or whoever it was that we rode on that winning to start making GDTs. Her and her alone from here on out.

lol I had considered doing another, though, *le sigh* my last streak ended in Western Canada... maybe it's time to redeem myself!

I'll pull out all the stops on my ridiculous superstitions too.

Whether good or bad I've never actually posted over on NP before.

I hate giving up a point when we could get two.

There's a few posters from NP.com that I don't see here, and as long as they stay away, this is the place for me.
