The All-Encompassing Minnesota Pro Sports Thread I

With the Twins starting Spring training, it's time to do a little spring cleaning. Instead of having separate stickied threads for each sports team taking up space and laying dormant, we're just going to have one encompassing thread. This is a hockey board, but at the same time there's a lot to talk about across the Minnesota pro sports landscape and hopefully this works. It solves the problem of cutting down the number of stickies and not having to search for other threads if they became dormant. Enjoy!

Should work well since we're all only talking about one sport at a time.

How many years until the Wolves are moved?

I'm excited for spring training to get going. Can't believe we're less than two months away from the season now.

Also, Timberwolves are embarrassing. The hiring of Kahn is seeming more and more to be a mistake....what a terrible team. The fact that the Wolves drafted Brandon Roy and Ty Lawson and now have a backcourt of Jonny Flynn and Corey Brewer is pathetic. Rubio now doesn't seem to be that attractive as an option either.

Well to be fair, Kahn was like our last choice. I don't like basketball much, but it doesn't help much when the team is horrible.

I'm super excited for the Twins to start playing again. I can't help but love me some baseball.

Or contracted? Whenever Glen Taylor gets fed up of losing money.

Bahahahaha! I could help but bust out laughing when I read this:

Quote:
The St. Louis Cardinals could be scrambling for a backup infielder after learning that free agent signee Nick Punto will be sidelined up to 12 weeks with a sports hernia injury that will require surgery.

The Cardinals courted Punto during the offseason to be a backup at several postitions, particularly third base, where he would be the perfect complement to David Freese. Punto, however, has been limited in workouts this week due to discomfort in his groin.

The Timberwolves have promotions which make minor league teams look good. It's pretty sad.

You could have gotten season tickets for less per game. On the plus side, they are going to win tonight.

Are the Florida Panthers a minor league team now?

Did the Twins feel so bad after trading AJ away that they just started tanking on all of their trades?

Also, it's MLB opening day!! Who's pumped for the return of the one respectable team in this state? Twins @ Toronto tomorrow.

I **** you not, I've seen 2 Timberwolves posters that said:
"Don't worry we're just re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-rebuilding"
And
"We've made mistakes in the past and we'll do them again"

I don't know how either of those would want anyone watch or be a fan of that team.

I actually thought the re-re-re-building one was refreshingly honest. And I enjoyed the one about learning the players' names instead of just calling them things like "the big Serbian dude."

Doesn't mean I'm going to start watching basketball, mind you...

Still a diehard Timberwolves fan. So sick of watching them lose, though. If they want to stay in Minnesota they're going to need to fire Rambis and draft a new KG. These past two seasons the team has looked hopeless. There's still the great white hope in Ricky Rubio to look forward to... *shrug*

I have a feeling Morneau is in for a big year. He's well rested enough.

Is it pathetic if we know that it's Mankey? That's certainly how I feel.

I don't think so, I'm 23 and I still like playing Pokemon.

But hey this thread is supposed to be about sports, lets not get off topic here.

If I'm honest, as a Twins fan I'm kinda expecting a bit of a down season this season.

I feel with the bat, guys like Morneau, Mauer and Young are going to be consistently good.

Nishioka(sp?) and Span to be decent(.270-.280 BA from both). I'm expecting Thome won't reach the 20 HR plateau again, and Kubel and Cuddy to kinda bust.

I HATE our OF defense. Especially when you consider we have 2 guys who need a good OF defense for flyballs(Baker and Blackie).

I also dislike our starting pitching outside Liriano. Baker, Blackie and Duensing are #3 pitchers. Pavano is a ? and wouldn't surprise me to see him to either not do as well this year or get injured.

Gibson looks good and should be a good #2 in the future, but he'll need some time to get into rhythm.

I hate to do so, but I'm also really against Billy Smith. The Billy Bullock deal was horrid. A 2nd round pick, 500k to sign, and young relief pitching for Diamond. Are you kidding me? If he has flaws, you don't trade him straight away for a guy like Diamond. He had closer/set up potential. Freaking stupidity. I wouldn't mind if he got fired for someone better.

Not expecting a playoff appearance this year I don't think, but with our Twins, you never know.
