-Shyed away form talk of Miro, simply saying they have to evaluate and then make a decision by the 31st
-Wants Zhitnik back, and placed a call to his agent
-Plans on being very active in the Free-Agent market, then Quinn added they have prepared greatly for this period and have done their research on all the will be Free-Agents
This is exactly what I wanted to hear from the big guys in the front office!!!

Talked up Marty, and the point that Miller can go back to the Amerks.
Said Max has a North american Agent, and that usually means the player wants to play in the nhl.
Left a message with Alex's agent. Then got a call that he should'nt be in contact with him yet.
Larry Q.
26-27 million dollar payroll.
Rights to 24 players and they'll make some additions.
The franchise has to pay its own way.
Need to average 14k a game in attendance.
Marty? ack...
$26-27M? ack...
I'd like to see how they are going to make "some additions" with a payroll like that. Unless they are talking about addition in the Delmore/Bouchard mold again...

My guess is that it starts with letting Satan walk.
They're taking an awfully big risk in slashing the payroll of a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 4 years. People won't be lining up to see another losing team.
So they're going to operating with a budget of 26-27 million?
Maxim Afinogenov - $1,086,800 (Min. Qual)
Milan Bartovic - $450,000 (Min. Qual)
Eric Boulton - $501,600 (Min. Qual)

Brad Brown - $585,200 (Min. Qual)
Brian Campbell - $450,000 (Min. Qual)
Tim Connolly - $1,036,849 (Min. Qual)
Chris Drury - $2,926,000
J.P. Dumont - $1,596,000 (Min. Qual)

Ales Kotalik - $837,900 (Min. Qual)
Adam Mair - $450,000
Jay McKee - $1,862,000 (Club Op.)
Mika Noronen - $665,000
Andrew Peters - $450,000

Chris Taylor - $450,000
Assuming every player accepts the minimum qualifying offer and club/player options are exercised we're looking at a payroll of $29,423,893 for 25 players. Most likely, they won't even offer Satan the qualifier. That alone will bring the total payroll down to $25,433,893. Zhitnik will only be brought back at around 2 million or so. It's a sure bet they're going with the same team from 2003-2004. I'm predicting the only additions will come from Rochester (Vanek, Miller, etc)...Unless Darcy pulls off a few 'financially even' trades.
My guess is that it starts with letting Satan walk.

An interesting phrase Darcy used in regards to Satan.

"Miro still has a Value in this league"
I don't see the Sabres getting anything more than picks and prospects for him. This team will be reducing payroll unfortunately, and I don't foresee them bringing in any bodies that will put them over the budget.
They were also on WKBW's weekend sports show at the same time. I was flipping back and forth to see if there was any difference. There wasn't much. Looks like they choreographed it very well. On WKBW, Regier said that Vanek and Miller look ready to make the jimp, with the caveat, we'll find out in training camp.

And "last year's" payroll was set at $30 mil, was $32 mil when the season started and almost $34 mil at the end of the year.
I don't believe that number, not for one second.
If the Sabres can't average 14k this year that's a serious serious problem. Heck, they averaged 15,343 "last" season.
2004's team minus Satan and Zhitnik makes me pretty nervous. If that salary number holds up with that roster we will likely miss the playoffs, in fact I doubt the Sabres will be anywhere near the playoffs.
Satan and Zhitnik were two of the top 5 players on the team. Anyway you cut it, you don't replace that with call ups from rochester or by hoping some journeymen defensemen will somehow put together a solid season...I'll with hold judgement for now, but I am not optimistic

I think you are right. Our current team minus Z and Miro will not make the playoffs. Especially if the game is speeded up and more focused towards offensive play as expected.
I get the feeling i am either going to be very pleased, or very disappointed in the events over the next month or so. There will be no middle ground.
We are the New England Patriots of the NHL, minus the great coaching, dynamic franchise player and championships.
You forgot to add dynamite amatuer and professional scouting to the minus column....
Sounds like Miro is being shopped. No surprise there. It sounds like status quo, hope to slip into the now expanded playoffs and make a little money.
As for minimum qualifying offers, there is the possibility of using the new team arbitration to lower salaries. I expect Regier will be using that to the best of his ability.

I was flipping between WKBW and WGR so fast I'm not sure which one I heard it on, but when Quinn was asked about the payroll, all he would say is they expect to be in the middle of the pack as they were the previous season. Did he actually state a figure on WGR? I thought he left himself a lot of leeway the way he stated it. Middle of the pack it could mean anywhere from $25-34 million.

Quinn stated that payroll will likely fall somewhere in the 26 to 28 million dollar range.
