Goaltending depth tops prospect pool for Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers have a very distinct prospect pool emerging in the world of the post-Pronger trade; one highlighted by a sixth round pick, two seventh round picks, and two free agent signings.

Where's Lauridsen on this list? Is he not doing too well? I figured just on his size alone he would be in the top twenty. Or does it have to do with him not being signed?

Sad to read about Legein and Kalinski. I had high hopes for both of them.

Interesting read Chris. Out of curiosity, why did Kovar not make the top 20?

Has more to do with him being a project that isn't really doing much.

Yeah, somehow everybody seems to take it as a sure thing that Erikson will come over and play for the Flyers very soon but Kovar is not even worth to be mentioned despite having a breakout season in Europe.
Maybe it's because Eastern European prospects still have some kind of reputation...
I think I read that Kovar resigned with his Czech team for next season because there apparently was no interest from Flyers/Phantoms or at least no commitment from their side?!

That was a decision I came based on the fact that Kovar was literally of tertiary importance to the organization in terms of not only prospects in general but goaltending prospects as well. It seemed as if they left him to his own devises with very little interest or involvement in the end result. This was as late as last summer before Turek announced his retirement.

Then he won the spot, started doing well, and FINALLY started to get interest from overseas.

I'm not saying he's a non-prospect just because he didn't make the top 20. The Flyers' system is unique in a couple regards which makes it harder on a guy like Kovar.

It also doesn't help that the Czech league certainly isn't the SEL, KHL, SM-Liiga, or even the Allsvenskan. It's also only one season so far while everything before that was less than impressive.

I'm going to give Kovar a little more room to prove himself before I let the hype train roll forward.

I still have hopes for Kalinski, just not in Philadelphia.

Lauridsen is a project. His development is going better than I expected, but he's got a lot of unteachable raw potential that a skill set, proper development, and the mechanics of hockey at high levels need to catch up with.

So should we have high hopes for Brendan Ranford or do you think that he will be a spark in juniors and burn out in the minors?

I don't know. I think he caught everyone by surprise so much that people don't know what to expect.

Seriously, he's got some poor mechanics but a skill set that's to die for.

The organization better force some skating drills down his throat.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and my expectations out of the equation with him.

Well done Chris. I still have hope that Marshall will pan out for us in the future.

Any thoughts on trading Eriksson? I'm not necessarily saying they should do that, but with Bob playing as well as he has this season, does that make Eriksson expendable and if so what do you think his value is? I asked this in another thread but don't remember what the response was so if anyone wants to chime in, feel free.

no simply because I think his value is pretty low right now

I would bring him over to NA first to see how he does

I don't think he has much value as a trading piece on his own. He would be more like the filler in a trade.
