Ah, I'm guessing it's a magazine/website, then?

Thanks!

Yeah, they do a print issue and then an online version of that same issue but certain aspects of it they don't post freely.

On HFBoards, Schenn has gone from being a PPG player in his prime, to being a 100 point player. All because of one big tournament.

Can you imagine the hype if he was playing in a Canadian hockey market? Definitely wouldn't have been in juniors this year, that's for sure.

Yeah, he hasn't done anything notable since the WJC, huh?

He's probably overhyped, but I'm sure that's partly just the excitement due to him oozing potential. I'm sure it'll take him a while to come into his own in the NHL (since a lot of his game seems to be based around being physical), but no doubt we have a good one on our hands...

and yeah, can you imagine if he were, say, a Toronto or Montreal prospect? You think you see HF stroking now...

I wouldn't say that it's only "All because of one big tournament" ... it also has to do with how he's currently playing at over a TWO PPG pace with the Saskatoon Blades, he was just named WHL player of the Month, http://www.saskatoonblades.com/artic...r-of-the-month.

Quote:
Schenn led all WHL scorers collecting 32 points through the month of February, finding the net 13 times and accumulating 19 assists to go along with a +9 rating. He collected points in 12 of 13 games played which included nine multi-point games and two game winning goals. During Schenn’s 12 game point streak through February his efforts earned him a Three Star selection seven times including four 1st Stars.

Since his return to the WHL from the Los Angeles Kings Schenn has points in 18 of his 20 games played totaling 44 points (17 goals, 27 assists). He currently leads all WHL scorers in the points-per-game category with 2.20 and his consistent play also helped the Blades to a 10-3-0-0 record through the month, which included a six game winning streak. The Saskatoon Blades are the top ranked team in the WHL with a 48-13-0-2 record for 98 points and sit second BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 Rankings for week 22.

Schenn is playing his fourth season in the WHL, first with Saskatoon after the Blades acquired the 5th overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft from the Brandon Wheat Kings at the WHL Trade Deadline. He has appeared in 215 career WHL regular season games collecting 302 points (111 goals, 191 assists) and maintaining a +97 plus/minus rating.

Don't get me wrong, I think he'll be a fine player(though I wasn't a big fan of this pick back in '09). But the hype ran rampant at the end of the WJC, and into his time with Saskatoon.

Here is something to chew on that bodes well for him & the Kings. The last 16 #1's in THN:

1994: Peter Forsberg
1995: Ed Jovanovski
1996: Bryan Berard
1997: Marc Denis
1998: Marian Hossa
1999: Roberto Luongo
2000: Roberto Luongo
2001: Rostislav Klesla
2002: Tuomo Ruutu
2003: Kari Lehtonen
2004: Kari Lehtonen
2005: Alex Ovechkin
2006: Evgeni Malkin
2007: Erik Johnson
2008: Carey Price
2009: Nikita Filatov
2010: Alex Pietrangelo

Perennial all-stars bolded, the jury is still out on the most recent 4, and the others all turned out be at least solid players.

Very nice; thanks!

Interesting that most of the prospects are D and goalies, yet the perennial allstars are forwards (minus LuOcho).

Canadian fans take that tournament too seriously. We mustn't fall for the same trap. There are a lot of players that couldn't live up to that hype as well.

I think Brayden would have been in the NHL this season if he was part of almost any other organization (a few exceptions).

DL & Co have taken a conservative approach to Brayden's development. Some might say overly conservative. Based on what I saw of him in his short NHL stint, I think he'd be doing fine with the big club right now. In fact, I think Schenn was more NHL ready last season than guys like MPS, and E. Kane were.

Not wanting to burn a year of his ELC has alot to do with it to.

Future Watch 2011 (digital version) is not in THN store yet, so I can't buy it yet. What was Kings top 10?

Schenn, Loktionov, Forbort, Toffoli, Voynov, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?

FYI, the Kings new HF prospect rankings are up. Schenn is now an 8.5C, I know that number means nothing. Just food for thought.

I wished Schenn stayed on the team as I'm a huge fan, but there is no way he will be able to bring all that Handzus does to the table his first few years. I can't count the times Handzus' defensive play has saved the game. That stuff comes with NHL experience.

With all the Poni and Handzus hate around here, I wonder if people watch anything other than the obvious parts of the game.

I don't expect him to do all of the things Zus does I just think he will have a higher production. He is also not the kind of player that Zus is (meaning being limited offensively) so he doesn't really slot into that role. He just takes that spot on the roster. I think some of the load Zus carries will fall to Stoll mainly, and Lewis to a lesser degree.
