If the Eagles are going to lay claim to some hardware, they will have to do so with Chris Kreider, who broke his jaw in the second period on an errant clearance pass. He is out indefinitely, possibly for the season.

“I have to wait to hear what the doctors say,” York said of the possibility that Kreider may miss the remainder of the year. “But it is a broken jaw. We’re bummed out. That’s hard news for our club.”

Unfortunately, cages don't cover the jaw very well.

There's typically a foam chin pad there.

Without seeing the play, I'd imagine the puck got him up from underneath, at the side.

Can anyone comfirm that? Replay?

Eitherway, that's about our luck with the way these injuries have hit us at every level throughout the organization. Guys in Junior, NCAA, AHL, NHL, we've been plagued by injury this season.

This one kills me because Kreider is our top guy, and I was hoping wed get him signed and playing in the AHL when the NCAA season ends.

He should be ready to go with summer training, though, yes?

Thanks for this.

I didn't see this before my last post.

So, he could be back in time for Frozen Four. I hope.

They may be able to get him signed and get him to Hartford in time for playoffs.

It depends. You don't need a perfectly functional mandible for hockey, but you don't want to skate around with it shattered either. Plus its painful as hell.

Boston College is going to qualify for NCAAs regardless of their divisional results. So Kreider's loss, if he gets back in time for the NCAAs wont be that bad. I'm not worried about it affecting his development either as I think he'll be pushing to make the NHL next training camp.

I'd be a ton more worried if he either broke his arm/wrist, broke his leg, tore a ligament, or had a heart/lung problem. Yes, he will miss some time, but it is his jaw, the only thing he needs that for is talking and eating, it won't effect his on-ice performance.

What I am worried about though, is that he will miss BCs playoff run, and want to come back next year so he can compete in it one more time. Other than that, I firmly believe he comes to NY when his season is over.

I'm still hoping there are no signs of concussion.

Not all concussions are bad. I've had a concussion, symptoms lasted a week. I was involved in Martial Arts at the time, and I took a lot of kicks to the head when I sparred (fought) soon after the concussion subsided (with protective gear which was required for everyone anyway) and was fine ever since.

And for what it's worth, he didn't have a concussion, he just took a puck to the jaw, the rest of his noggin never had any contact.

I don't take concussions lightly, no matter what degree.

You can get a concussion from getting hit in the jaw. Like I said, hopefully its not that bad.

ALL concussions are bad. There is not any concussion that is not bad. They will accumulate over someone's life.

You can get a concussion without anyone ever touching your head. Just because its the jaw, doesn't mean he didn't get a concussion. I just hope to hear soon it was just his jaw.

Jesper Fasth had an assist and the GWG in OT on thursday. Tonight after 2 periods his team is up 1-0 and Fasth with the assist.

Playoffs starts on tuesday.

"Does Evgeny Grachev Have It?"

"He just doesn’t have the heart, the consistency or the talent to make it at the next level. He can barely sustain it at this level. Maybe a change of scenery changes that, but losing him would not really affect much." Mitch Beck

Interesting take.

Here's the other side of the coin - his last 24 GP Grachev has gone 10 - 9 -19 pts. That is hardly "barely sustaining it at this level".

Eh, Mitch Beck hates Grachev. Not personally but he doesn't like him as a player so I'd take that with a grain of salt.

Hope he's okay, but this is bad bad news and the injury train a keeps on rollin'....
this is why players have mouth guards; prevents concussions from hits to jaw and prevents biting of tongue

York's update on Kreider: Broke his jaw in two places. Surgery tomorrow or early next week. 4-6 weeks recovery.
https://twitter.com/#!/bcinterruptio...96622443347968

Bryan McCabe broke his jaw and he did not suffer a concussion.

Are the Rangers doctors doing the surgery? Feldman performed ankle surgery on Hugh Jessiman when he was at Dartmouth. Jessiman's health insurance picked up the cost of the surgery.

And he added an assist just for good measure.

7 games left for Thomas by my calculation (he was suspended for 1 game earlier in the season IIRC)....

Tomorrow the Generals play the Belleville Bulls who, judging by their record, are one of the weaker teams in the OHL... Hopefully it's the Christian Thomas show tomorrow.
