Playing offense as a forward is way different than playing offense as a defenseman.

Your best hope is that Morrisson finds the bench after his performance today.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them dress seven d-men, make Morrisonn the #7, and double-shift the righties (Pommer, Boyes, Vanek, Staff, Connolly) on the RW of the Nieds-McCormick line. At least until the get back east for Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh.

Agreed. I think also it was smart keeping him with Montador, let him be comfortable in his role. Making him adjust to something new will just set him back. And he's not MAB awful defensively, so what if he turns into a Joe Corvo or Brian Campbell kind of guy, that's still valuable for us in the right situations.

Only saw some of the 2nd and then the 3rd but:
Good:
- Stafford scoring finally.
- The Vanek-Boyes-Poms line. That goal was great. All three can score (30+ goal seasons!), all three are playing hard (save Vanek's boner), and they seem to have decent chemistry so far. Plus it helps the center issue if it continues to work. Me likey.
- Missed the EN but I really like the mix of Gerbe-Goose-Kaleta. Gerbe fits in well with gritty players, Kaleta's been playing pretty well and Goose has really been going as well as he's been in a long time imo.
- Sekera: to put it simply, here's hoping he puts it together at BOTH ends of the ice for good.

Bad:
- The powerplay, especially (obviously) the shorthander. This team needs to fix its powerplay 10 years ago. Total momentum killer game in and game out, even if the conversion percentage is OK.
- Going down 2-0. Obviously the comeback is great but they are going to need to come out better more consistently if they want to make the playoffs. They aren't going to come back the majority of the times they get down 2 to elite teams on the road. Keep in mind I missed the first period, so I could be wrong about how they started but Staffords interview after the 2nd indicates they weren't skating, as one would suspect.

Ugly:
- The injuries. Losing Grier isn't a killer obviously but they add up. They don't want to have to keep calling guys up and end up running out of non-emergency call-ups. They don't want to do something ABSOLUTELY FOOLISH like taking Sekera and putting him on wing while he's playing so good offensively. Hopefully they keep the aforementioned two lines together at least until Hecht is back, and choose the right guy to replace Grier. I'm pulling for Byron personally but an Ellis to more literally replace Grier seems like an OK decision.
- MSG. It's bad enough that I have no option to watch or flip to Knicks games (when they're finally good again) on nights the Sabres are playing and then have to wait until 1 am to watch a replay). The treatment the Sabres get in our zone is just third class. Cutting out with 1 minute left? I'm sure it was an automated mistake but ... shouldn't someone be there, not programming such a mistake? Come the hell on. And then after I get sucked in to this thrilling fourth-rate women's college basketball game they have to pull it out from under my feet to bring me the start of the post game. That was a joke.... I'd rather watch poker for christ's sake.

Wouldn't it be great if Pegula made an Empire Redux? Wonder how much longer the contract with MSG runs.

Great comeback. Fun to watch. Loving Boyes and Sekera especially. Oh and Ennis and Pominville. And Vanek and Stafford. And Myers. Hell, everyone but Connolly.

Why isn't Adam being discussed as a call-up?

I had a feeling there was a ways to go. Now, I'm not saying Pegula has any intention of ever creating a station but if he did I'm sure it would take nearly that long to get it all together anyhow. Here's hoping he's having his guys look at the data and put a study together.

Byron looked better in his callup than Adam did, which is why I think many like Byron as a callup. And Adam has struggled at times in the AHL as well.

But Adam does bring the big body if they want to replace Grier's size.

He's been called up a lot. Isn't there some limit to how many times a specific player can be called up before being subjected to waivers if not an emergency situation?

He certainly deserves the consideration alongside Byron if they're looking for a top 9 center, but my gut tells me Byron is the better choice and my brain tells me he is the more likely call they'll actually make.

He's not really NHL-ready. Needs to work on his skating/conditioning as well as defensive positioning.

Now is not the time to be calling up guys with limited professional experience.

This is also Adam's first pro year, and since he's been struggling a bit in Portland, it's very possible he's hit a bit of the first-year wall.

That's weird some had the feed go out. I'm in williamsville, have Time Warner Cable, never lost the feed. It would be interesting to see what the excuse is.

G- Sekera, Vanek (mostly), Miller in the third.
B- Connolly (mostly), Neids, The PP
U- Laviolette .. That guy has a constant smug look. I wanna smack the taste from his mouth. Fans booing Myers. Well consider the source.

A couple of interesting stats -- Connolly and Pominville each blocked four shots (credited), but Leopold had 6 to go along with four hits while Montador was a +3 on the game.

Strange.

The MSG feed I was watching on NHL Gamecenter kept running straight through to the end of the game with no interruption. So MSG was still broadcasting the game.

Maybe the error was with your local cable provider?

Another interesting stat: I've been tracking Myers ice time the last few games (which have been outstanding), he led the team each game since the Leopold injury, but today he was 5th (just above Butler), even Morrisonn had more time. I think its time to ride Myers, he's really been turning his game around. And there's no plausible explanation for Morrisonn having more ice time than Myers in my book.

If you go to the NHL webfeed and pull up the "Event Summary", it updates throughout the game and will give you everything the official scorer has given them for the day.

I think that pairing lost quite a bit of time after Myers got gashed by Nieds stick.

I love that Myers is getting booed. It mean's we're not the only ones who know he's good.
