Sekera - please fill me in

Hi All,
I own Andrej Sekera in my fantasy keeper league - I acquired him a few years ago when I sold off Scott Niedermayer... I expected that Sekera was going to be one of the next good offensive dmen in the NHL's new regime...
Since then he absolutely stunk it up...
A week or so ago I took him off my pro roster and sat him on reserves...
Since then he has 8 points in 4 games...
What gives?
Why has his game turned around so much? Did you guys move someone? Is he playing on a different point? Does he have a new defense partner? Is he trying to impress Brad Boyes?
I am not complaining, but I'd love some insight... Should I use this recent explosion as a way to find a buyer to unload him, or is he going to continue being an offensive player?

He's using is speed and skating freely, which is huge for a guy like him who isn't very big & isn't a spectacular shooter/playmaker.

Either way, keep him on your bench. Apparently it makes him God-like.

After Ruff sat him down I think Sekera was able to focus on playing his game more and it's shown. Kudos to Ruff on a good move there.

Or maybe it's the Steve Montador factor. Leopold, now Sekera...play with Montador, and offensive talent shines through. When he played with Myers, it was really his defense that was great.

I always thought this kid played so far below his talent it was sad .He is now on a really good run I am hoping he keeps it up cause he can really skate and puckhandle aside from his ability to defend !!

Maybe he was the one who thanked Darcy for not moving him and now he's stepping up his game in gratitude.

I'd appreciate insight on Butler too - I have him too, but he is my 7th dman

Pretty much how I see it (the second point).

When he played with Myers he could move up ice with the regularity he is right now, as Myers is an arounder who needs to participate in the offense to fully contribute.

Now, maybe he just feels he has more freedom with Monty around.

(who knows wtf he's feeling though, educated guess... )

I have been watching Sekera for two years and wondering how someone with such a smooth stride and creative hockey mind could manage to not end up on the score sheet more often.

He's finally playing with the confidence of an NHL regular and I hope he's a Sabre for a long time. I think he just needed time to get his head together.

Glad to see this thread. How is his D? The 9 points in 5 games jump off the page, but I've read elsewhere that he's brutal defensively. I don't get to see him play often -- is he a liability? (Obviously he's still pretty young and did get scratched recently, but....)

Not really. Earlier in the year, he was paired with Myers and both were playing well, but because Myers likes to wander into the offensive zone, Sekera needed to play a little better defensively and he did.

Now, he's with Monty who's a little more of a stay-at-home type, which allows Sekera to float around offensively a bit more.

He's not great, but I wouldn't call him a liability.
