Palffy

Zigmund Palffy is rumoured to sign a 3 year contract with LA.

Link: http://hokej.point.sk/spravy/?clanok=36431

He said:" My agent is talking and everything is going well".

He also says that Stumpel is holding talks with LA so they can play again together.

Question: Can LA contact Palffy though BEFORE AUG 1st or is he considered LA's player to resign?

Discuss.

La can talk to palffy, yes! No gm can talk to ufas or rfas that aren't their own until aug 1.
hope that clears it up

The Kings cannot negotiate with Palffy (on the record, officially, etc.) until August 1st.

Palffy was a UFA before the lockout started, therefore they are not allowed to talk to him about a contract.

In the LA times, it says that Kings GM Dave Taylor will start talking to Palffy right thing August 1st.

Good for the Kings. I hope he ends back with them. They could really use him.

Edit: Assuming the NHL finds there was a violation, the Kings would probably get slapped with a fine and/or loss of 1st rounders.

Nobody. The NHL would just take away pick(s). The NBA stripped Minnesota of five first rounders for trying to bypass the salary cap. The NFL fined the Broncos a 3rd round pick for breaching the salary cap years ago.

As for the LA Times article, here's the snippet:

Winger Ziggy Palffy, whose contract expired, "is one of the players we'll talk to on Aug. 1," Taylor said. "He's a great competitor."

i thought you are allowed to talk to your teams UFAs, so why would it be bad for LA to talk to plaffy?

I have a feeling something was arranged in the new CBA to allow things like this to happen. No proof, just a hunch.

I read that somewhere also.

It's nice to see that Palffy wants to stay in LA.

The Kings, like all clubs, are prohibited from negotiating with any players deemed unrestricted free agents prior to the lockout, even if they played for that club during the '03-04 campaign.

"We have not had discussions (with Palffy)," Kings VP of Hockey Operations and Asst. GM Kevin Gilmore told TFP.
I guess not

I agree. It was probably more of a "I enjoyed my time in L.A. and would love to play there again" than a "I resigned with L.A."

Of course I'm still living in my fantasy world where the Isles bring Ziggy back.
