Why doesnt Richards pass more?

Today he had a 2 on 1 and (like he always does on those) he shot the puck. What happened to him? He used to pass on those and other good opportunities but now it seems like he shoots all the time.

Just another reason he shouldn't have been made captain so young.

As much as I like Richards, I don't think I've ever seen a player make the WRONG decision on a 2 on 1 as many times as Richards does.

We signed this guy to essentially a lifetime contract. He needs to be a top 10 player in the league to live up to that and he's just not getting the job done.

Is this a joke? You guys saw him pass to Versteeg for 2 goals yesterday, right?

You're missing the point. That happened yesterday and it wasn't on an odd man rush. How many times does he take a shot when a pass would be better?

He also scores on his share of them. I'm actually thankful that he's not afraid to shoot the puck in that situation, unlike most other players on the team who seem to always try a pass and fail, resulting in us not even getting a shot on goal.

A good captain would pad his teammates' stats.

You'll have to pull up some stats that show he shoots more than passes and that it's a problem. Of all the things wrong with this team, Richards shooting instead of passing is not something I think of.

He passes when the lane is open. If the passing lane isn't, he takes the shot, instead of forcing it.

Why doesn't JVR shoot when Richards is on a 2 on 1? WTF is his problem?

I'd rather him shoot and have the goalie make a save, then pass and have it broken up and never have the chance.

Tis' better to have passed and failed than never to have passed at all?

There is an option to ignore the thread.

Otherwise, they rolled along for the first 4 months. They've been getting outplayed in 3rd periods, mostly by teams who need the points more (or in Ottawa's case, their jobs). That's cause for concern, but I'll be nervous if they're still trending down in 2 weeks. They have plenty of time to work through it and then round their game into playoff form.

fine. but this goes beyond the last 3 games. this subpar play has been going on for over 2 weeks. it isnt about Richards not passing enough, or Giroux not shooting enough.
99 percent of the players in the league have flaws. lets start threads about all the ones on our team. Doesnt make much sense to me at all.
Im not going to ignore threads.

With little to complain about between October and March, that's what happens. What issues have we had this season? A slump to start the season, Bobrovsky perhaps playing too many games, burying bad contracts, Jeff Carter's long one, and staying afloat by going 9-4 when Pronger hurt his foot. And Zherdev.

because hes afraid that if he passes the puck, claude giroux will skate off the bench catch the puck and pass it back every time
