Thoughts on Heatley?

Is there any chance of him landing here, and if so, how much should we want him?

There's a rumor (sorry no link) from the Ottawa Sun I believe that says he may be on the block/available. Not sure how reliable that is but it was on the trade rumor board the other day.

If we could get him I personally would be mighty happy!

i wouldnt count on it, considering the offense is mainly based on him and kovalchuk, if they can keep them together they are definitely contenders in teh next few years.

Exactly, imagine if all their high end prospects turned out. A core of Heatley, Kovalchuk, Stefan, Coburn, Valabik, Lehtonen, and 8th overall in 2005 would be pretty damn good.

I don't think the Rangers have the pieces to get him. And that is just another example of this franchises' flaws. After 7 years of no playoffs, there should be the guys there where you could make a run at a guy like Heatley. But there just isn't.

I would give up quit a bit for him, not overpayment but would love to have him in a NYR jersey. Heatley and Spezza and also Richards are my 3 favorite non-NYR's.

For Heatley i would give up a first rounder in 2007 along with what ever else is fair enough, the kid is a true star.

Well I apologize then, I thought you were saying Waddell was going to offer Heatley and the 8th pick to get into the top six.

Why is Healtey worth so much? Because he's a phenomenal talent and a star in this league, and he's only what, 23? What's worth more, a budding star that's a proven 40 goal scorer or a top draft pick who has yet to play a shift of pro hockey?

Maybe it's only me, but I always find it ridiculous when people want to trade proven young talent for prospects or draft picks that could bust. You got someone who's proven, why trade him for someone that could bust?

I'd say Heatley is one of the untouchable players out there, at least, when it comes to trades. You could try and put in a big offer on an RFA and force them to match the offer, if they're running out of cap room.

This also applies to guys like Nash, Spezza, Kovalchuk, Datsyuk, Crosby etc.

The Rangers don't have anyone worth in trade for someone of his stature.

you would throw them in the deal, I think that is actually quit fair, just the only thing is NYR has no top or even close to #2 or #3 d-=man except probably Pock who would be a #4 , cause he is no #5 or , I would say #3 most likely #4.

To NYR : Heatley
To Atlanta :Tyutin, Montoya and 2007 1st rounder

Sounds plenty fair to me, fo a player like Heatley I would do it, but with Atlanta having Lehtonen, I dont think they ( ATLANTA ) would want Montoya.

So who to replace Montoya with I guess would be maybe Korpikoski who i would throw in that deal no questions.

To NYR : Heatley and a 3rd
To Atlanta :Tyutin, Korpikoski, Dawes and 2007 1st rounder

or

To NYR : Heatley and a 3rd rounder.
To Atlanta :2 of (Tyutin,Montoya or Korpikoski ), Dawes and Murray

or

To NYR : Heatley and a 2nd rounder
To Atlanta: Korpikoski, Garth Murray, Jessiman, 1st rounder in 2007 and future considerations.

Would anyone do a straight up Jagr for Heatley deal? Atlanta gets a proven player who is still probably the best in the world ( And at a reasonable price.) We get a young star to build around and help offset the negative vibes of missing out on Crosby.

That would be such a steal for the Rangers.

prior to his knee injury heatley might have been the best young player in the league...41 goals, 89 points as a 21 year old

not as good offensively as kovalchuk but a better all around game...and nash doesn't get assists like heatley (although that should change playing with zherdev)

no way we have enough to trade for him.

Our best bet at getting Heatley is signing him to an offer sheet.
