When did the OLE OLE OLE chant start?

Hello;

I was wondering when the Habs fans started chanting this, is it relatively new?

When France won World Cup? I could be wrong, and probably am.

Do you mean 'when did we start chanting it in other teams arenas'?

That would also be my guess, so since 1998.

The Ole Ole chant was 1st heard on March 23rd, 2002 , at 12:47 of the 2nd period shortly after the Canadiens took a 4-0 lead against the Blue Jackets on a PP goal by Zednik.

Not sure exactly when but I remember it before the lockout against Boston in 2004, so gotta be before that, not sure exactly when

Could be right, I was sure it was the year before that in the playoffs against the Bruins and then Tampa

I've always wonder if the the Ohé Ohé Ohé is the french version of the Olé Olé Olé. That's what I hear Pierre Houde referring to when the fans are singing it and also, most french Habs fans are singing Ohé instead of olé.

My first memory of this chant was in the 2002 playoffs against Boston.

It was kind of spontaneous, and its just stuck.

I was under the assumption it began with JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSE! In 2002 when Theodore was uniting the city. Afterwards it just turned into Ole since he was gone and the fans loved it.

I could be wrong though.

the other funny thing about 2002 was the strike at SRC. The playoff games had no audio play by play

it was actually kinda cool.

It's always been olé olé. Some people just don't know what they're talking about - I've had to correct a few of my friends about this.

They even flash "olé olé" at the bell centre when they want the fans to sing sometimes. So I dunno why Pierre Houde gets it wrong all the time.

That's really cool. I like commentary if its Bob Cole (I know lots don't like him but he's still good IMO) but outside of him I am pretty meh towards commentary.

Best TV hockey experience ever, I'm hoping as direct tv or whatever evolves we will be able to block out the anouncers and just hear player and crowd noise.

That was truly the best.

I don't remember The Oles starting when Theo was there. Anyway when the thing took hold and become a phenom it was not too long after Carbo became coach.

I've always hoped it was be available too, you can be more focused on the game and feel almost included in the play, night and day from RDS and even sometimes CBC where it's like

I don't hate Brunet and Houde or anything but to me it's useless and often personally biased or incoherent, at the end of the night what have they said that I didn't already know ? Stats will do the job and intermission reports. Or best case scenario, hope for high-end sportscasting...

I'd be a buyer for sure if either was available.
