It wasn't all five. But even so, you don't trade a quarter for four nickels.

Sometimes ownership just needs to back off.

Gomez's 14 points in the playoffs last year say hi. You can fault Gomez's massive contract all you want but I'll still in retrospect I still make that trade. Gomez played a huge role in our run to the conference finals last year. Tom Pyatt played 40 games last year and has played another 50 so far this year.

Last year's run will always be > than McDonagh's (sp) potential.

Why? Has nothing to do with the region, thanks, and had EVERYTHING to do with Alan Cohen, the former owner. People here love this team, and several were just waiting for Alan to be gone, but they also want this team to be competitive again before they come back. Look no further than the stands when they missed the playoffs by half a point just a few seasons ago, they were full!

Cohen also nixed a deal that would've sent Olli away. Cohen kept a cap on this team the entire time he owned it, thus not allowing any real players to come here. He had no patience with GMs, coaches, players, and incessantly lied to fans. He brought Keenan back, allowed a terrible trade for Luongo, but blocked a trade with the Flyers that would have apparently brought some great players back for Bouwmeester. The list goes on.

Now, we have new owners who are apparently willing to spend, are patient with Tallon, and want the team to stay. Move? Nope!

Which would have led us to probably resigning Cammalleri. Dammit!

I don't know how you can even say that. You got to the Eastern Conference finals but you didn't win the Cup so what's there to gain out of that? A personal memory is about it..

Lol, Holmgrens been so lucky. He's almost wrecked his team twice. Giroux for Bouwmeester and Carter for Kaberle?

So minus Giroux and Carter and we have

Pronger - Timonen
Bouwmeester - Kaberle
Coburn - Carle

I don't know what Florida's owner was thinking and I don't get why the Flyers would make this trade (unless they had vastly different needs back then).
The Flyers needed another top pairing defenseman and forward has always been their strength so that would be the logic behind it.

I remember that deadline well because I was obsessed with the idea of them getting Bouwmeester. The Flyers were definitely after Bouwmeester and I remember Pierre Lebrun reporting they were close to a deal for him, but Florida decided to hang onto him. That was also the year they did that strange Upshall and a 2nd for Carcillo deal. There was speculation that deal was to make room for a larger deal. There were also rumors another deal was going to happen and they had asked for an extension from the league to work it out, but then nothing happened. So I always believed the two teams were working something out, but the Panthers chickened out on moving Bouw despite it being obvious he had one foot out the door.

However, I do have a hard time believing Giroux was involved. I remember the talk in the Philly media after the deadline was that nothing happened because the Flyers refused to deal him. I would have been surprised if Giroux was dealt for an impending UFA.

They wouldn't have dealt for Pronger if they acquired Bouwmeester.

Flyers are lucky... I remember reading a report on the oilers board here on HF (so take it for what its worth, not sure if its true or not) There was a trade for Lupul (when on oilers) straight up for Mike Richards, and appearently the one who nixed the deal was K Lowe...

He was thinking he wanted at least two games of playoff revenues.

At the time, it was painfully obvious that Bouwmeester wasnt coming back but the Cats were very close to their 1st playoff spot in almost a decade.

You still want Bouwmeester? Hes just on the FLames I'm willing to trade him please!!

What would be fair value for Bouwmeester from the Flyers POV?

J-Bo and Regehr are a hell of a pairing.

...just wish J-Bo had some sort of offensive awareness. I love having Bouw on the Flames. He and Regehr pair together greatly. Amazing set of d-men that compliment each other very well.

....but Bouwmeester in the offensive zone is almost comedic. It's like he actually identifies what the smart play would be, and then actively decides to do the exact opposite.
