No Stone Grier or Anne Hecht seems almost like addition by subtraction. I'm not sure why Mancari is up instead of Adam but he can't be worst than Grier. Maybe M&M will realize he actually needs to start using his body to make the NHL.
Grier has been rock solid on the PK and along the boards this year..yeah, he has his senior moments, but his positives outweigh his negatives of late in my eyes..Mancari offers nothing..yet again...he cant pk, not especially good at D, he's slow and he doesnt use his body...but maybe we'll get some phantom PP production...yet again.
BTW...we are already in 7th, based on percentage. The way standings are calculated are idiotic in the NHL. You may not win every game in hand but you are unlikely to lose them all either. A win today and a Rangers' loss and that is a serious cushion we are building.
OMG people need to stop counting points we don't have. If we were in 7th place, the NHL standings would have a 7 next to the sabres instead of a 9.
I think beating Philly qualifies more as a world shocking than beating Minnesota would be. None the less BEAT MINNESOTA!!!!
You are right in one point, we are unlikely to lose all our games in hand
but
You are hugely wrong on another point. We can not count points not yet earned. The whole point of standings is what would happen if the season ended right now and if it ended up right now we'd be in 9th and nothing can change that. % points or no % points if it ended right now we'd be watching the post season.
There's a major flaw with your thinking. The season could not end with Buffalo having played three less games than the Rangers or less games than anyone else. The only way to fill that gap, in a reasonable way, is to assume you get points based on your present pace. Hence percentage.
You'll notice baseball does its standings by percentage.
In the end, it doesn't matter because it all comes out in the wash. Everybody will play their 82 games, especially if a playoff position is dependent on it.
But we are in better shape than standings might indicate because of the games in hand.

The bolded I will agree with you on. Also you are right that in the end we will end up playing 82 games.
Your flaw is saying we are already in 7th. Which requires counting points we yet don't have.
My point is that you are saying we are in 7th based on %. While you are right we have a higher point % per games played than the 2 teams directly in front of us we do not have more or even the same points as them. Bringing up how baseball does their standings is pretty much pointless since we're not following baseball. Also in baseball even if they do it that way, if the team that they list in 1st doesn't win the games in hand, guess what they end up not in 1st at the end of the season.
The best thing I can use to make my point is what the nhl standings page says:
Quote:
If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:
1.The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
We would be in 7th if we had the same amount of points but we don't. Hence why if we win and NYR lose we'd be in 7th because we'd be tied in points and since we'd have less games played we would meet the 1st tie breaker criteria.

Sabres have the carrot dangling in front of them after a big win. That plus a rested goalie could be enough.
Go Sabres!
Hopefully so - but the past has shown us that in the 2nd of a back-to-back set, the team comes out tired and sluggishly, forcing the rested goalie to bail them out.
They've been so close to finally getting into a playoff spot. Once they do, I think they'll build on that and really start tearing it up. I think that happens tonight.
Lets Go B-Lo!
Stafford continues his streak
Vanek starts his
Pommers and Vanek must stay together!

That line looked solid. The Boyes trade has really helped the Sabres depth at scoring. I hope he continues his production, and with linemates like vanek (Who can get the puck around the net where Boyes likes to score from) and Pommers (Who has a nice hard shot in which Boyes can bang in the rebound), he is likely to continue it.

I know the NHL "officially" does standings that way. The NHL does a lot of dumb things, like keeping teams in Phoenix and Atlanta.
There is no point in arguing this because it is based on supposition. If you wanted a true calculation of playoff chances based on current points and games in hand, you'd also have to look at ease of schedule etc. and other factors.
I just think the current system gives no credit to games in hand -- unless you are actually tied -- which is absurd.
But as I said before, after 82 are played, all these arguments are meaningless.
Go Sabres. Nice to be able to argue about how well we are doing!
oh yeah Vanek is going to score atleast 2 goals....
Thanks!
For my prediction, I feel like each time the Sabres have a chance to reach a goal this season (a three-game win streak, get into 8th place, etc.), it takes them a few tries, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them fall short today. Still, it's a different team since Pegula took over, so a win wouldn't surprise me, either.
