Phew, now I'm confident to say the least. Bäckström would have been a nightmare, even if he has some weaker moments.
That being said, Sabres will make the backup look like an allstar.
Backstrom has been struggling, and Theodore just had a 41 save game against the Rangers on the road, so I don't think it's a slam dunk edge for the Sabres now.
Hecht and Grier out, Mancari in means we can actually try to field 3 scoring lines effectively.
Poms - Boyes - Vanek
Ennis - Connolly - Stafford
Mancari - McCormick - Gerbe (dunno who should be on center though, no bloody idea. But don't ruin it with Gaustad in the middle.)
Nieds - Gaustad - Kaleta
Should be atleast worth the shot.
You do realize we're talking about Mark ****ing Mancari here, right?
Career AHL'er. Yeah, no...I bet Nieds would score before Mancari.

That's a little extreme. Mancari has 2 G / 3 A in 16 career games. When he plays with top guys here, he performed well here. With Nieds played with Vanek or Poms, it was brief because he was just terrible. I'm not a big Mancari fan, but he has been effective here before.
Do you watch the Buffalo Sabres? or are you Blind?
Im pretty sure Mancari is way better than Nieds, I don't know where you've been
No need to get nasty. Special Nieds has sucked. It's not just the lack of scoring. He's slow. He's missed checks and made some dumb plays icing pucks at bad times.
That said, the faith some have in Mancari based on his A stats is a bit much. The guy is running out of chances. He's may be big but so was Kotalik. You gotta play hard no matter how large you are.
I'm hoping Mancari gets it all together but at 25 his past due date is upon him.
I'd rather have seen Luke Adam.
Mancari is a bust, plain and simple. He's showed absolutely nothing in his past callups that would make me think he can contribute at the NHL level (and he was tearing up the AHL then also).
Niedermayer in the last month or so has been a strong player in his own zone and along the wall. He's a mess offensively, sure, but he's been a plus or even player almost every game since mid-January. For the minutes he plays, that means his line is at least a saw-off and in the realm of lineup filler... that's not a bad thing.
As for Mancari, a couple of games for him to skate through the proverbial wall, get an audition for other teams and perhaps help the Sabres right now. If he does that, great -- everyone gets something of benefit. I suspect Boyes stays in Hecht's spot in the middle and Mancari takes Grier's lineup spot.
If they want more of a puck possession/defensive line, they might switch Nieds and Gerbe. If they want more offense, they could also swing Mancari up in place of Kaleta.

I don't quite understand the people glad that Hecht's not playing, and thinking that it's addition by subtraction. I'm under no illusions that Hecht is some allstar but I feel he was playing pretty well in the couple games before he got hurt. I thought he was a beast against the Hurricanes. I mean I really don't understand why anyone would think having Mancari in is better than having Hecht.

After a number of tries to get into the 8th seed, the new ERA brings a new mentality and the Pegula points streak will continue with a impressive 5-2 win over Minny.
No Stone Grier or Anne Hecht seems almost like addition by subtraction. I'm not sure why Mancari is up instead of Adam but he can't be worst than Grier. Maybe M&M will realize he actually needs to start using his body to make the NHL.
I said seems. I'm just kind of sick of Hecht and his indifferent play all the time. He takes dumb penalties, some games he's on and others not. All for $3.5-million.
Of course, he's better than Mancari. I admit that.
Grier I think is all but done in NHL. He's slow down and his head is not in the game these days. Some really dumb plays lately. He's lost something.

the last time he was up here i was just about to say that to my brother but then he scored a goal. I thought that was funny.

either way.. he has had a good year in portland.
Because one goal means he's not a bust right? He's had a few good years in the AHL now, but still hasn't been able to make the team. His game just doesn't seem to translate into him being a full time NHLer. He's had plenty of time to develop his game and crack the Sabres lineup full time, and he hasn't and most likely never will.
