Don't forget, that Shootout Wins DO NOT factor into the tiebreaker -

Here are the tiebreaker win totals for each team in the race (with the standings win total in parentheses):

NYR - 26 (33)
CAR - 25 (29)
BUF - 24 (29)
TOR - 23 (27)
ATL - 23 (26)
NJD - 25 (27)

Even though the Rangers have 33 wins and seemingly ahead in this category - they are only one ahead of the Devils when it comes to the tiebreaker. This might have something to do with that fact that they only have 3 regulation wins over their last 19 games. Yes folks, only 3. Rough stat.

This team needs Regulation Wins in the worst way. But my thinking is if they are struggling in that department, at least pick up points any way you can. In the end it's the points that get you to the dance.

Speaking of the Devils - They have that really really easy March schedule. 9 out of the 14 games are against teams outside the playoff line. But even if ALL the teams in the race including the Rangers go .500 or .476 the Devils still can only afford to lose 5 games the rest of the season. Going 15-5 would give them 88 points. If the Rangers go 9-9 they also have 88. Carolina goes 9-10 and they have 87, and so on. So the Devils getting in is going to be really tough, but its scary to think they may have a shot with such an easy schedule. But- theyll need help - and they'll need it from 6 teams looking for 2 spots. (i'm not counting Montreal) If they drop 2 in a row at any point that might be enough to crush their spirit.

Anyhow, the Rangers have to take care of their own business and not worry about everyone else. Win tonight, and they'll be 7 points up on the Sabres with 3 tiebreaker wins in hand going into the last 17 games, opposed to 3 points up and 1 tiebreaker win in hand. Tonight is GIGANTIC.

Thoughts?
90 points should be enough to sneak in. So Rangers need to go 2 games above .500 to get to 90 points (10-8, 9-7-2, etc.). I think the schedule is friendly enough this month for them to easily surpass that mark. 93 pts would be good for at least 7th, but prob not enough for 6th. I'm thinking 95-97 for 6th place.

You're probably right, but I'm hoping we do get to the 7th spot, cause if we get to 8, we will face Philly, and be done very quickly. And while I don't think we're winning anything this year, I don't wanna be humiliated in the 1st round.

One thing is for certain; we need to capitalize on our games against weak opponents like the Senators and Islanders.

The two games against Buffalo are huge if we are only playing .500 hockey.

I too, would love to play against a weakened Pittsburgh squad. But Bylsma is a hell of a coach and we'll be an underdog no matter who we play. Personally, I wouldn't mid taking on Boston. I'm a big believer in Tim Thomas's choking ability.

I completely agree, as long as we dont play the flyers or the habs in the first round, ill be happy. I also believe tim thomas will choke, and I also feel we can beat tbl as long as we keep them off the pp.

Well Ryan Miller shut down the March start we wanted but...

Mar. 1 vs. Buffalo Sabres - L
Mar. 3 vs. Minnesota Wild - W
Mar. 4 at Ottawa Senators - W
Mar. 6 vs. Philadelphia Flyers - L
Mar. 9 at Anaheim Ducks - W
Mar. 12 at San Jose Sharks -OTL
Mar. 15 vs. New York Islanders - W
Mar. 18 vs. Montreal Canadiens -L
Mar. 20 at Pittsburgh Penguins -OTL
Mar. 22 vs. Florida Panthers -W
Mar. 24 vs. Ottawa Senators -W
Mar. 26 at Boston Bruins - L
Mar. 30 at Buffalo Sabres- OTL
Mar. 31 at New York Islanders -W

7-4-3 is what I say....I hope im wrong in a good way

That would leave us with 87 points with 3 games to play....I say we finish with 91 pts....will that be enough, Idk i hope so. 2 months ago I would have not questioned making the playoffs
