That's even better then. Over their last 25 games they are 17-7-1. So even if they haven't been playing their best hockey for that entire stretch (which I don't think is the case) they are still 17-7-1. It is very hard to do much better than that. Sure, you'd like to win every night and smoke the other team 10-0, but that just doesn't happen. Through an 82 game season (or even at 66 games or where ever they are at now) you are going to have slumps and you are going to look bad at times. But yes, 17-7-1 while the team is dealing with injuries to key players at times during that 25 game stretch and not playing their best hockey really makes me worry about this team. I mean, they really need to do better than that if they want to win it all. PANIC!

Nothing wrong with the Flyers. It's a minor funk. But the Devils are out of your control whether you play them or not. Logically, I don't see how the Devils can play at at this clip, .869 over the past 23. If they played .700 hockey the rest of the way, it would leave them with 87 points and short. They need to play .800 hockey over the last 18 games, say 14-3-1, to get to 91 points.
It would be the greatest run in NHL history to make the playoffs.

The Devils will not make the playoffs. So the Flyers don't need to worry.

You say the word NEVER with too much confidence. I don't even want the Sabres to play them in a regular season game. We need points and are desperate.

While this season may be too late for the Devils to make the playoffs (and, if they find a way to do so, I think they will make it to the ECF), I think we should all be concerned about them next year assuming Lemaire is behind the bench.

Thats what i find the biggest problem. That winning is masking problems that we have. We haven't won any game convincingly. While thats not a bad thing, its the fact that the team is not playing good hockey. We were surviving on good bounces, and now those bounces are not going our way.

Last I checked, the Devils need to go 14-3 to make the playoffs assuming teams in front of them finish with decent records over the rest of the season, and then it only gives them like a 40% chance of even getting in.

I really think they'll finish 9th.

At 14-3-1, they have 18 left not 17, they have almost an 85% chance to make the playoffs.

It is a tall order. Lose an extra two and their odds drop significantly.

Ah, the numbers have definitely changed since I last looked at it.

So really, 13-4-1 is the minimum (as of now, that's the baseline record that gets them over 50% chance of being in).

That's still pretty challenging, especially since their schedule gets harder over the remaining games.

I still don't think it'll happen.

Pretty sure he said he wasn't going to coach next year... don't think he really wanted to coach this year, but it was such a train wreck he took the gig as a favor to Lou.

That is correct...but you have to wonder if going through this stretch rejuvenates his interest at all.

I'm scared about Jersey, for sure. I'm scared about playing anyone though. We'll lose to whoever we get unless we wake the ****** up.

I just don't see that as the case though. Which games are you talking about that haven't been "convincing" and that they won on good bounces? There have been close games, sure. There have been games where they blew a lead, yeah. But that doesn't mean there are deep seeded problems that are making this team a question mark going into the playoffs. I've seen more games lost on bad bounces than won on good bounces in this recent stretch. Today is the worst they have played IMO all season. Just ugly.

My thinking exactly. I'm sure he's pretty amazed at the turnaround and might be interested in coaching this group for an entire season.

They reside near the bottom of the league. The stigma of losing to them would be embarrassing regardless of their record of late.

This game had better be a wake up call, and they better get a fire under their collective rear for the rest of the season.

Dead last, and are without their leading goal scorer for the remainder of the season.

the flyers have had trouble with the devils all year long even though we are much better in the standings.

sounds familiar, doesn't it.

i pray we don't have to face them.

I'm not. We're losing enough to not finish 1st anyway.

exactly... if Devils climb up to 8, with the level of play from February (performance-wise not record-wise) Flyers will end up 5 or 6 seed so NJ will be someone else problem

The Flyers are 3-1-1 vs the Devils. I wouldn't say that is having trouble with them.
