There's plenty of guys I'd prefer... But #1 centers are few and far between when it comes to being available. I'd prefer Stastny as well.
If Spezza is available...I want him if it doesn't gut the roster.
I agree to an extent. While I'd be glad we got a #1 center, at the same time I don't think I'd like seeing Spezza in a Sabres uniform whatsoever. He would most likely become one of my least favorite Sabres regardless of how good he is. I just do not like him, or the way he plays the game at all.
I feel like Columbus would ask for the one guy almost no Sabres fan wants to trade.
Kass would probably have to go the other way.
And honestly, if he can continue to increase his production I'd have to think long and hard about it. Guy has scored more points every year since he entered the NHL.
Wouldn't be shocked if Pegula gets the Sabres to check in about Malkin. Pegula has a lot of ties to Pittsburgh and current/former Pens staff.
Congrats on the new owner. From all accounts, he's an awesome guy. Buffalo deserves it. No doubt he's going to do everything he can to bring the cup to Buffalo.
Firstly, I think Spezza would be an upgrade over here but I just don't see the sens and the sabres as trade partners. They're in the same division and they just don't like each other too much I guess.
If I would give up ennis for Spezza?
Well, thats a hard decission imo. I think both are a little bit overrated. The big plus spezza has got is that he has proven that he can be a very successful top line center while ennis is all about potential but he has proven nothing so far at nhl-level. So call me on the proven-talent bandwagon.

Honestly, no thanks. With a double tear of knee ligaments, who knows how he recovers. Not going to touch that pole with anyone's stick just yet. Besides, Malkin really didn't have that great of a year this year anyhow. With what Pittsburgh would want for him + his contract price + his possible-never-recover-fully injury? Pass for now.
As we have discussed quite a bit on here. Acquiring a top center can be pretty tough to do. So why would the Sens trade away a proven one thats only 27yrs old and signed for 4 more years at the going rate for #1 centers. Its not like he will be an old washed up player if it takes them 2-3 years to be good again. He will still be in his prime years
Not to mention, why move him out for a LW with high end potential (Ennis), a mid 1st rounder and a young center that doesn't project out to be a top line center (Adam)?
If they trade SPezza its likely to be a change of scenary type thing with a proven top 6 center coming back to Ottawa.
Plus with Spezza's NTC, do they really need another Heatley type of mess.
2. From Buffalo's perspective we need to watch the amount of big contracts we take on. The key to success in the playoffs is depth. In the cap era thats best achieved with high end talent on cheaper contracts. Thats why I would be reluctant to trade away Ennis.
Could that 7mil you would have tied up in Spezza be spent better? Would we have to get rid of other players due to taking on Spezza's deal? Because the deal thats mentioned (Ennis, Adam and a 1st) only removes 875k (Ennis) from our payroll next year.

I don't believe Ennis was included in any deal discussed.
15 years with a total worth of 150 million
50 million of it up front in a signing bonus
year 1-5 = 10 million per year
year 6-10 = 6 million per year
year 11-15 = 4 million per year
= A 10 Million cap hit
but 100 million in Stamkos pocket in first 5 years...
I don't even know if you can do a signing bonus (i know vanek got one in his Edmonton offersheet).

Don't forget the 4 first-round picks. That's a HECK of a lot to throw at 1 player, no matter how good he is.
He was from the Sens side, which is why Darcy hung up.
The believed offer from the Sabres was Adam, Foligno, and a 1st.
I know Spezza's good and we need a center, but that's about the limits of what I'd do - and just barely. Any deal involving Ennis is a no-go for me. Spezza is definitely overrated based on the former success of the Pizza/CASH line.
Back on Earth, Spezza has 12G 21A and -11 this year in 45 games.
Last year, 23G and 57pts.
He's also had injuries of one sort or another almost every year.

Done in a second, picks be damned. Move or encourage poaching of Stafford for a first back if it makes taking on the contract easier.

Not calling anyone out but I just don't believe any normal "fan" no matter who their neighbor/friend is has any inside info on talks Darcy had. When has the media ever been in on anything? It is just a glorified message board banter IMO, though I could be wrong, it's just that Darcy is a very quiet individual.
That doesn't make any sense. Why would we make an offer for Penner? Sabres are fine at wing. We need centers.
Maybe Pegula isn't Satisfied. Signing Penner and using him in Pommer's position for cheaper and getting rid of Pommer for cap space? The owner of the Buffalo Shamrocks seems pretty confident that he heard this

I definitely don't want that to happen. I'll take Pominville over Penner all day, even if Pominville's a little overpaid.
