3 PTOs?

Worcester and the AHL are reporting Cheechoo just signed his 3rd PTO. I thought you could only have 2 and they had to make up their minds on an SPC or release (or anything but another PTO). Anybody know what the rule is?

Last I'd heard, it was two PTO's and decision time.

Any word on this since? I know a PTO lasts just 25 games. So if he had 2 thats 50 games. 3 would put it at 75. That may be why its 2 and make a decision because your gonna try out a guy for a whole season? I'm sure guys on PTOs make less too. Could be a sneaky way to have a guy for cheaper?

It doesn't really answer this question but here are some interesting facts

Chechoowas released from his PTO and sign to a SPC this weekend. He has now play 55 games this season

Also, Brandon Svendsen signed his third PTO of the season after playing 50 games with Bridgeport. It seems like Cheechoo wasn't an exceptionnal case.

Wow have the mighty fallen. What the heck is Cheechoo doing in the AHL anyway? Does anybody know the reason why he's fallen so far off the radar?

Look at his numbers in Ottawa and figure it out. He's a one dimensional player who benefited from playing with some great offensive talent in SJ during a couple magical seasons, and as soon as he got moved down the depth chart, his one dimension dried up. It didn't help that Ottawa traded their franchise for him either. He's a very good offensive player at the AHL level and would probably be putting up better numbers in most places, but Worcester is anemic offensively and he can't carry a team.

Does anyone know if a player on a PTO makes less $ than if they were on a SPC? I'm quite curious still why he was able to be on 3 try outs.
