The law are so bizarre. In Pennsylvania, a 40-year-old man can have sex with a 16-year-old high school girl, but he would most likely go to prison for filming it or taking nude photos of her.

If you are caught by police taking a piss on a wall, or in an alley for example, you are prosecuted for indecent exposure, and labled a pervert

Well they did not actually go through with the child pornography charges which is why he didn't do any jail time. It may seem harsh, but the age difference does not come into play with charges of distributing child pornography. I think penalties need to be harsh to protect minors from it.

Look i'm not condoning it. Stupid thing to do, but lets not act like this doesn't happen in every single college everywhere. As i said, if this isn't a hockey player, do you care about it?
Just like most criminals lie about their involvement in the crimes they committed.... Both players did plead guilty by the way.

Are you from the dark ages? Who cares if it happens in college all of the time? It doesn't make it any less wrong. There would be no issue if it involved two consenting adults, but it becomes a problem if it involves a minor or someone who did not consent. This case involved both. Let me ask you, if he wasn't a hockey player would you be trying to lessen it and defend him?

Like I said I don't think he deserves to be labeled for life. I personally like to think that he learned from his mistakes, but that doesn't mean we should lessen what he did and blame the victim.

Holmgren makes it damn hard to be a Flyers fan some time.

How about you stop throwing away draft picks so we don't have to go barrel scraping with a sex criminal?

Wow, its ashame he wont get any chance here. Even if he somehow becomes really good, people will continue to criticize him. Make a mistake when your young, and live with it for the rest of your life. Terrible.

In a little town? Really? He's probably pretty well known for his ability even at his age. After all, you can go on these boards and people are touting 9 year olds as the top draft choices in 2019.

“He’s a real good skater, I liken him to Darroll Powe a bit,” said general manager Paul Holmgren. “He’s skates a lot like Darroll, he’s a hard-working kid who gets on top of people quickly. We’re excited to get him signed.”

------

Zolnierczyk is nearing the end of a three-year probation. He was sentenced in a Canadian court in June of 2008 to three years probation and given a conditional discharge for his role in a pornographic video involving an underage girl.

Holmgren said his probation did not affect him being drafted.

“He wasn’t a very big guy back then,” Holmgren said. “We had our eye on him last year and he wanted to finish school. He’s a good kid. He made a mistake as a young kid in life and he’s paid his dues.”

Sounds like Homer's scouts got the jump on a number of other teams like SJ, Boston, Buffalo, Edmonton, . Here's a good article, with some excerpts below:

http://www.projo.com/brown/content/d...v2.b29a82.html

"Thanks to Harry Zolnierczyk, you can hardly walk to your seat in Meehan Auditorium these days without bumping into an NHL executive."

---

“Without question, he’s one of the top players in the country, drafted or undrafted,” says Peter Donatelli of Providence, Zolnierczyk’s family adviser.

---

Doug Wilson, the San Jose Sharks’ executive vice president and general manager, was in the house for Saturday’s game against Clarkson. Alongside was Sharks’ director of pro scouting John Ferguson Jr., who is based in Rhode Island.

Also on hand Saturday was Brown alum Ricky Olczyk, the Edmonton Oilers’ assistant general manager/director of hockey operations and legal affairs.

Chris Pryor, director of hockey operations for the Philadelphia Flyers, was at Meehan both Friday and Saturday.

Besides the execs, scouts for Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Buffalo were in the stands, too.

From another article:

http://www.projo.com/brown/content/d...v2.b29a82.html

“It was a mistake that I was truly sorry for and am truly sorry for,” Zolnierczyk said on Monday. “I’ve had to pay my price and learn to put that behind me and make good with what lies ahead.”

If we didn't sign him, someone else would have. With our lack of depth at the AHL level this is a very good signing. Those charges are nothing more than a kid making a mistake and the reaction from some of the posters here is embarrassing.

So he taped it, if he had both people's consent, don't see a problem with it. It's not like tibbet's who actually ***** a girl.

He was young and naive and did something incredibly foolish, no doubt about that. But, as others have pointed out, he's done his penance for that act. He took responsibility, pleaded guilty and has been a model citizen since.

I'm sure if he turns out to be a Ken Linseman type of player, everyone on here will forget about his past indiscretions and will talk about how the Flyers found one heck of a pest who can rile other teams up and score goals at the same time.

I'm sorry but anyone on these boards or in general who thinks that video taping sexual encounters with underaged females and distributing it on the interest is something that "boys do" or "when we were in highschool etc" is just pathetic.

No one is branding him for life, I am sure he has learnt from his mistake and will continue to learn from it. But to say that its overblown is just wrong. Choosing to have sex with someone is one thing, but filming it and distributing it without consent is just plain pathetic, and anyone who thinks its right is just as pathetic.

This isn't the typical highschool prank where you toilet paper someones house etc. Just plain wrong.

With that said, I will not use these actions to decide whether or not it is a good signing. As has been mentioned already in the thread, people make mistakes, face the consequences and move on.

I agree. However, (I don't know the details) if he taped a girl without her knowing and showed people. That's definitely not cool. But kids are dumb and for the most part, terrible haha.

According to the articles I read, what happened was a teammate of his broadcast himself and a girl having sex with a webcam (the girl was not aware it was being taped) that was broadcast to Zolnierczyk's computer. Zolnierczyk then showed it to friends (charged with production and distribution of a pornographic video involving an underage girl)

This is my biggest issue with it. He is labeled for life. He was a dumb horny teenager being an idiot. We all went through that phase, even if you don't admit it, or were a pimple faced dork.

He's kept his **** straight since the incident, proven by the fact the Flyers signed him. Yet here we are, having this discussion.

What he did was wrong, he received fair punishment/embarassment/humiliation. It was expunged from his record, and it's still being talked about. He is a "sexual predator."

No, he's a young man, who made a stupid mistake. He was punished for that mistake. It was expunged from the court records, but will never be expunged from the public record. This will follow him for the rest of his life. Every city he plays hockey in, every job he applies for, every person he meets.

I hope, for his sake, he makes it, and makes a little bit of money, so he has something to live off of the rest of his life.

Wonderful job only quoting PART of my post and leaving out the hypothetical portion of it which was my ENTIRE POINT. Way to make it appear as if I'm condoning what he did. Grow up.
