Habs Roster

This is what we have right now,

Zednik Koivu ( )
( ) Ribiero Ryder
Bullis Bonk Sundstrom
( ) Begin Ward

Extra:
Higgins / Hossa / Perezhogin / Dagenais / Plekanec

Markov ( )
Souray Komisarek
Hainsey Rivet

Extra:
Boullion

Goal:
Theodore Huet (injured)

Extra:
Danis

Looks like we have 4 spots available. (3 Forward - 1 Defence)
I really think Bob will sign 2 FA's, 1 forward & 1 Defencemen.
As for a Defencemen I really think he should go after Aucoin.
The other 2 forward spots will be from within.
What do you guys think!

If Gainey gets Aucoin, it will really help the Habs. He's one of the most underrated defenseman.

In front, we really need a scorer. Kovalev, Murray, are kind of player who can help the team.

If we get players like Forsberg or Naslund it will be Christmas, but i don't really believe it ...

If he signs 3 UFA players like he wants to, that leaves just one spot for a rookie. Which isn't much considering what the fans here think of our great prospects.

We will see what happens in the FA market but I don't think Sundstrom or Ward are sure thing to be in MTL. Ward would be welcome back, and I'm sure Gainey love him(if not he would'nt have let him go to Hamilton) but the fact that he is so injury prone and we have enough problem with Koivu and Begin like that, that I think he could be expendable. Nothing is a sure thing in this world and that why it's so exciting. Oh, and BTW, Hainsey won't make the team.

I think Bob will go after Kovalev, if not he will sign
another top line forward. With the new rule changes
I don't think Murray is a good solution. I would rather
have some one with good speed.

I dont understand why BG signed Sundstrom for another year. Higgins could easily replace him on the third line. Even Hossa could be better. I look a the roster, and you see that 1-2 kids will play in the lineup. This is not much. Bulis needs to have a very good year to be back.

Don't forget the guys who are RFA's. Though it is pretty safe to assume most will be resigned, there is still a possibility they won't. Also, whatever happens with their salaries will impact who we can go after in the UFA market.

I think this is exactly right. He'll sign an offensive defenseman (Zubie?), a big winger (he said he wanted size on the wing: Kovalev? is the only affordable option it seems), and perhaps a checking line player (Lapointe?) or a goalie (Prusek?) (or both).

I think they'll keep Higgins, Pleks, Kasty on the farm. In fact, there is your first line right there for Hamilton: Higgins-Plekanec-Kastitsyn.

Perezhogin has to be on the team I think or else go back to Russia. The AHL decided he couldn't return to the AHL without serving his suspension, isn't that correct? So he's an NHLer or a RSLer.

Dags will be gone I think. Sundstrom he might keep around for insurance, so that means Ward could be gone or start in Hamilton (though he'll undoubtedly be claimed on waivers).

But he could surprise us with a trade or something, who knows?

No way Sundstrom makes this team same for Dagenais. IMO Hossa along with Hainsey are running out of chances to prove they belong, this is their last chance to make the team. Another thing I dont think they signed Bonk to be the number three centre, he is the number two after Koivu. I also think Rivet will be bought out as well, BG is trying to move him to get something instead of letting him go for nothing.

This what I'd like to see happen in the best case scenrio.
RFA's singed. Kovalev signed. Aucoin signed. Sundstrom traded at draft for draft pick. Best goon available in waiver draft or UFA pool picked up. If Streit impresses at camp sign him.

Line-up:

Zednik-Koivu-Kovalev
Ryder-Riberio-Perezhogin
Bulis-Bonk-Hossa/Higgins
Ward-Begin-Plekanec/Higgins
ex. Dagenais, Goon

Markov-Aucoin
Souray-Komisarek
Hainsey-Rivet
ex.Boullion/Streit

Theodore
Danis (until Huet returns)

Sundstrom is already signed and Gainey prove his intention to keep him with the team...

Dagenais seems safe too.

And yes they signed Bonk to be on the third line. Ribs is just too good to be below second line...

And nothing has been said on Rivet at this time.

He served his time so he can play in the AHL or NHL

When Gainey signed Bonk, he specifically said he signed him to center the checking line. Now you could argue that the checking line is the second line here, I suppose, but he's on the right line in the lineup.

Hes also too limited in terms of his overall game to be below the second line..........

Why aren't the Habs buying out and trying to resign Rivet? They could shave a million off their payroll to put toward UFAs, and Rivet would make the same amount of money. Are they afraid he's going to bail on them? That seems unlikely, considering his past in MTL and his friendship with Koivu.

Because they can't. If you buyout a player, he can't come back for a year. It's the rules.

That could be it. But isn't a bit close to the cap? I mean, imagine if the revenues drop and the cap also. Wouldn't we be stuck with too much, without having any leaway for some UFAs next season?

Which players would become UFA for the Habs next season?

I say we concentrate on getting the best UFA Dman we can get and let the kids fill in at forward positions. Using all our resources could nab us a really good defenseman, possibly of the Niedermeyer variety.

Zednik-Koivu-Perezhogin
Higgins-Ribeiro-Ryder
Bulis-Bonk-Hossa
Begin-Plekanec-Ward
Ex: Sundstrom, Dagenais

Markov-UFA
Souray-Komisarek
Hainsey-Rivet
Ex: Bouillon

Theodore
Huet (Danis)

That looks good to me and will really show us what our prospects can do.

And if this Dman doesn't cost us too much, well we still have a lot of cap space for next year if there is a revenue drop in the NHL.

I, would personnaly, prefer to see a #1 or #2 Dman and Kovalev, but if we can only get the defenseman, Ill be happy anyway to let those youngsters have some ice time.

Can't wait to see Perezhogin in action.
