MURRAY: “We are changing it up, the one group with (Anze) Kopitar and (Drew) Doughty and Jack (Johnson). We’re going to change the setup in the offensive zone. I think you get to a point, sometimes, where change is very important. You get stale. You’re getting stationary, often, when you get so used to one setup. It’s a power-play look that I used years ago, when I was coaching in Florida. It’s a change. It gets the puck in different people’s hands. There’s more movement in it, and it gets you thinking. To me, with where we are right now, we’re a team that’s looking to make the automatic play all the time. You’ve got to get some thought back into it.”

How did he set it up in Florida? This is gonna be interesting.

Bravo, TM

I like his thoughts on the PP, especially his discussion about things being 'stale' and trying to make the 'automatic play.' You don't want to overthink things, but you want to give your creative players a chance to flow and be creative, and it sounds like he's going to do that. I do think the Red Wings are a bad place to guinea pig a strategy, but if not now, then when?

Looking forward to tonight!

I just want to see them play with the same intensity on the PP that they show on the PK. You gotta play the PP like your back is against the wall every time.

But we need Westgarth in case the team gets in a bar fight after the game!

Before you get too excited, let me remind you of a little history with Terry Murray and what he said he intended to do on offense before the season started and he has failed to do.

I don't know how he set it up but...

In 98-99 he was 22nd in the league with guys like Pavel Bure, Ed Jovanovski, Ray Whitney.

99-00 their PP was 8th and they scored a lot of goals, but they got swept by the Devils in Round 1. Viktor Kozlov had 70 points that year. I might get my hopes up but we don't really have anyone like Bure.

Well good to know JJ is back out there, but what about Williams?

Kings might be the only team in the NHL that doesn't have their second best forward on the PP.

Well, at least they are actually talking about trying a new PP. That's a step in the right direction.

Now I know Murray's gone crazy. By all means Terry, announce to the world that you are changing the power play. Maybe you could fax over some of your Kings play book pages to Detroit, too. The fax number is 313-567-0296. Appropriately, that's their foundation donation request line.

There's no margin for error, especially against a team like Detroit. This is going to be tough game to win.

Last year's PP in the playoffs was all about Doughty and Johnson, so I'm really hoping it means less puck time for Kopitar, the play dies on his stick.

lol.. In Murray's defense all he announced was a change was being made and what the change was based around.. He didnt exactly draw up Xs and Os on post them on twitter.

Lets hope the change brings some life to our PP.

And for the love of God.. Matt Greene... Stay out of the

Exactly!. What about Williams? He is creative and fast. It's about time TM realized it and changing thing up. He should have made this change two months ago.

If the Kings lose tonight, don't go jump off a bridge. Here's the rest of the schedule:

@ Columbus
@ Dallas
@ Nashville
St. Louis
Anaheim
Calgary
San Jose
Colorado
@ Edmonton
@ Vancouver
Dallas
@ San Jose
Phoenix
@ Anaheim
Anaheim

Certainly manageable. 19 points out of the next 16 games (or 15 if they lose tonight).

I'm glad TM is changing the power play setup but I'm cautiously optimistic about how well it'll work. He had some scrub named Pavel Bure in his time with the Panthers and we don't have that same kind of dynamic element.

Still, it's nice to see that the coaching staff recognized an issue and is working to fix it. The way people talk around here, you'd think they just put blinders on when they're not behind the bench during games.

sigh the new pp set up is going to be the umbrella they use on the 5 on 3's, that is argueably worse than the current give the puck to Anze set up

I find it interesting that when I first got here I disagreed with basically everything you said and now I generally look for your posts in threads because they're so often quality posts. Still, odd that I went from disagreeing to agreeing with almost everything

And Penner gets his second hat trick as a King!
