Jannik Hansen Appreciation Thread

The kid has been injury free and is having a career year. He works hard on the third line and I got nothing but love for our high pitched, high energy, hard hitting Dane.

Hockey and theatre seemingly have little in common. Or so I thought.

Last Friday was date night and ladybird and I took in Legally Blonde: the musical at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre; this wasn’t my first experience with musicals, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy them.

Weird thing is that while Elle Woods was fighting her way through Harvard Law School to win back the heart of her ex-boyfriend Warner (a thrilling plot to say the least), I gained a deeper appreciation for the Vancouver Canucks, and specifically Jannik Hansen.

More than that, if you actually watch the game.

His play out of the gate this season has been a revelation. He's a hitting machine who has been playing high energy, intelligent hockey.

And he's starting to show some hands. A couple of the passes he made on Malholtra's goals were pure beauty.

I expect he gets the Unsung award at the end of the season.

Hansen has always been one of my favourite Canucks. Glad to see him getting some recognition.

He's been a lock for the Unsung Hero since very early on -- which technically means he's not unsung and it's a big paradox.

I agree with the OP. Hansen is a great 3rd liner. A 3rd line of Hansen - Malhotra - Higgins sounds pretty solid to me for the playoffs.

What kind of numbers would you all like to see for a contract extension?
I realistically see a 3 year deal @ 1.4 cap hit? , maybe a 4 for 1.55?

Grass is greener.

Let's wait and see what Higgins can do before we replace Torres on an effective line.

Also -

I head a funny joke on Torres.
A guy called him Cli-Torres because he's hard to find. LOL!

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing as I walked back to work with my lunch pizza. The guy is tireless. I wish we had a couple more Hansens to play on the second and fourth line too. If the lines go cold I would love to see Burrows - Kesler - Hansen reunited again. They showed great chemistry together before they all emerged into the players they are today.

Higgins and Lapierre played together in Montreal, and our third line has been good lately. No need to disrupt chemistry.

He's got two years until he's a UFA.

So if it's a longer deal, that will no doubt be factored into the equation.

My hope is for 3 years @$1.6m.

Hansen is the ideal bottom six player. It seems like Canucks are building their bottom six with Hansen-type players. Players with tireless forchecking, energy, and grit along with putting up solid offensive numbers.

I still don't understand why the Canucks didn't opt for a two year deal at arbitration for Hansen. Almost no downside and some decent upside.
