I'm not sure if anyone will agree, but I'd say the only defense man currently on our team that would be a top-4 d-man on a contending team would be Whitney. With the way he played this year he'd definitely be a #1/top pairing guy, but imo our d-core goes way down hill after him.

Thanks for the Welcome.
I was just doing this because I wanted to see how much potential and talent the oilers have and what we should be targeting this up coming draft.
IMO I see many elite forwards in 2011 but only 1 Franchise player thats a Defenseman. I Just think even though we have no depth on center, wouldn't it be appropriate to go after the Franchise player?

Correct, I am impressed by no one on the defence corps other than Whitney. Only other d-man with great potential is Smid who has great skating ability but does not take it to the next level. He skates well into the opposition zone but is reluctant to take a shot or go right in a score. Petry has a chance as well as the guys in junior but the rest are non-descript.

Khabby let his game slip a lot. Not likely we see him get it back.

Agree in some, however a lot seems to be wishful thinking that they are gonna be that good.
I left out my opinions on on the draft prospects, but good job on your first post

A lot of your lower draft picks are way off. Bunz, Davidson, Martindale to be specific.

Burmistrov, Granlund and McIlrath aren't very accurate either.

I think both Blain and Hamilton should be ranked higher. I also think you are over valuing Hall and Eberle, while both have a chance to be what is listed I think it's 50/50 weather Ebs will be a first liner and I doubt Hall will be considered a franchise player (same with Seguin). Most non-oiler fans would doubt that Hemmer deserves the Elite label.

Yeah the lower picks were a little harder to pin-point. What rankings would you give those 6 players?

Bunz should be getting a lot more credit after the season he's having. Based on potential he is looking like he could be a nhl starter.

Davidson: Top 4
Martindale: 1st line - AHLer (very boom/bust, you never know)
Bunz: #1 A

Burmistrov: Elite 1st liner (I think he'll be special. Much closer to a Datsyuk than RNH)
Granlund: 1st liner (He'll be playing with Koivu next year or the year after)
McIlrath: Top 4

Yeah I tend to be generous with the ranks but Hall and Eberle's ranking were more of a gut feeling plus their hockey history but I understand what you mean.

Honestly I can see why non-oiler fans wouldn't give the title elite to Hemmer but I think most oilers fan would agree after watching him for almost a decade that he does deserve it.
Maybe semi-elite

That makes more sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

With McIlrath, from what I've been reading was similar to Teubert but assumed he was strictly a enforcer.

McIlrath will be a tough shutdown guy on their 2nd pairing, I would assume
