Yeah I was thinking the same thing - it's a long break between games, so I'm not surprised.
Nobody ever agrees with me, but I liked the black jerseys with red lettering and white trim that Starter sold for about a minute and a half about 12 years back.
It's the same classic design, but the red and white on black is really sharp IMO. I know, I know, everyone hates it but me. I don't care.
This isn't exactly the design I remember, but some blogger guy drew it up and I found it in a google image search. I really like this a lot, though I might do the nameplate with red letters wrapped in white like the numbers, and maybe widen the white borders on the arm and waist stripes:
I think special makeups like they did in 92 and for the 09 Winter Classic are great, maybe a special night jersey every year that they wear for some anniversary or that they reserve for an important game at the end of the year.
But a regular alternate would be terrible. I was skeptical about Chicago's, they kind of pulled it off but I still don't care for it. There they at least have a third color. A black Detroit would make no sense, they have a two color uniform, adding a third would seem forced.
The Rangers and Bruins alternates have all been terrible and they don't have the same level of consistency and tradition as those other two teams.
The Leafs have had some OK alternates and I actually liked those Montreal ones with the blue stripe in the center but overall Original Six teams and alternates do not mix in my book.
